How to view weather radar charts

The color of weather radar generally increases in intensity from blue to purple. The darker the color and the smaller the area, the greater the probability and intensity of precipitation. In summer, areas covered by red areas are prone to short-term severe convective weather.

Let’s take an example:

On the weather radar map, the area surrounded by green echoes generally corresponds to rainfall. Generally speaking, light green means there is a possibility of rainfall, and dark green means there is definitely rainfall.

The radar echo changes from blue to purple, and the rainfall intensity gradually increases. The bright yellow area generally corresponds to a rainfall intensity of about 10 mm/hour, and the warm red radar echo generally corresponds to a rainfall intensity of about 20 mm/hour, and strong convective weather such as short-term thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail may occur.
