Probe into the Qiao Family Courtyard in Zhangjiakou

On the afternoon of August 28th, 2020, I came to Gaomiaobao Village, where Gaomiaobao Township Government is located, from Ximalin Town, Wanquan District, Zhangjiakou City.

Gaomiaobao village is famous in two aspects. One is the "Little Brick City" known as the "Qiao Family Courtyard in Zhangjiakou", and the other is the "Eighteen Cylinder Courtyard" which is famous inside and outside the Great Wall and shocked the Mongolian Plateau.

The Qiao Family Courtyard in Gaomiaobao, known locally as Little Brick City, was the private residence of Qiao Han, a wealthy businessman in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.

Qiao Han made a fortune doing business in Beijing. So he spent huge sums of money to build this small brick city in his hometown.

Unfortunately, only three years after the small brick city was built, Qiao Han died of illness. He was busy taking care of business in Beijing and didn't live in a small brick city for a few days.

After liberation, the small brick town became public property, used as a warehouse and school for the production team, and was later occupied by the brigade and the village.

This small brick city is divided into two courtyards, and the East Courtyard is the main courtyard. The picture above shows the gate of the East Hospital.

The lower part of the courtyard wall is a stone foundation, and the upper part is polished blue bricks, lime and glutinous rice soup, which is very strong.

There are Chinese knots and "auspicious" shapes on the top of the wall of the East Courtyard, which means festive and auspicious.

The west courtyard gate is generally a combination of Chinese and western architecture that prevailed in the Republic of China. The doorway of the gate is arched, and two iron gates are decorated with spherical doornails. There is a plaque embedded in the gate, but the words on it are missing. The top of the gate is decorated with moire relief, and the carved content is fruits and vegetables, which still has the characteristics of farmers.

I don't know what this is. Please let me know your friend.

Came to the small brick city, the east courtyard door closed. I tried to see what the yard looked like through the crack of the door, but the door was closed tightly and I couldn't see anything.

It is said that it is being repaired, but it is not known when it will be repaired.
