The legend of Huishan clay figurine

There are many legends about the origin of Huishan clay figurines, but most of them cannot be verified. Here are some common legends:

Bin Sun

According to the descendants of the famous clay figurine shops of Hu Dafang and Hu Erfang in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, during the Guangxu period of the late Qing Dynasty, there were only a dozen clay figurine shops with the names of Chen Jusheng and Hu Wansheng, and they all set up a clay figurine guild-Juhuo Institute (now Shijiaxiang, Huishan). The ancestor worshipped by CCBA was Sun Bin in the Warring States Period BC. According to legend, during the Warring States period, Guiguzi received two apprentices, both of whom were famous military strategists during the Warring States period, one was Pang Juan and the other was Sun Bin. Pang Juan was jealous of Sun Bin, so he cut off Sun Bin's knee and made him unable to walk. Sun Bin fled to the State of Wu and lived in Huishan, where he pinched many clay figurines and horses to study the new disposal method of breaking the five-thunder array in Pang Juan. Later, when he was a general in Qi State, Huishan's tactics in a battle with Wei State broke through the five minefields and killed Pang Juan. However, his skill of kneading clay figurines in Huishan has been handed down, and Huishan residents have since picked up clay figurines.

Liu Bowen

Another legend is that Liu Bowen, a great politician in the Ming Dynasty (also known as Liu Ji, a strategist, politician and writer at the end of Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of Ming Dynasty, was proficient in classics, history, astronomy and art of war) (1 31July1July1April 375/. At that time, Zhu Yuanzhang founded the country and established the Ming Dynasty. One day, Zhu Yuanzhang sent Liu Bowen, a strategist, out for a survey. When he arrived at Huishan, Liu Bowen found that there was a king's spirit, and Huishan was Longshan. I'm afraid another emperor was born, which is not conducive to the rule of the Ming Dynasty. In order to suppress and destroy Feng Shui and break Long Mai, he taught people to dig mud at the foot of Huishan Mountain and sell money as clay figurines. Some made mountain mud into military commanders, and some made it into emperors, which broke the feng shui of Huishan, so that there were only mud emperors and generals in Wuxi, and there were no prominent figures. Of course, he didn't expect that this would leave the world with exquisite Huishan clay figurines and create a group of folk artists who are good at creating Huishan clay sculptures.
