The Origin of Duobao Temple in Chengdu
As early as the Wei and Jin Dynasties, a man named Master Bao Zhang came here. Master Bao Zhang washed his hands in the Shahe River, but he saw that the water was clear and the shore was green, and Shan Ye was grey. This immortal water, which came from the Xuma Bridge in the north of the city, was already deeply rooted in people's hearts at that time. He came here to practice Buddhism, feeling that he had found a good place, so he leaned against a woodland, opened a clean land, used it as a Dojo, practiced Buddhism all day, and later collected many disciples. At that time, this area was still a wilderness, and the small temple was simple, so it could only be sheltered from the wind and rain. In the Tang dynasty, the temple got a sum of money, so it was built and rebuilt, which was one of the new ones. At that time, Li Yan, our ambassador to give up, also happily wrote an inscription. The monument of "Daoyin Master" written by Ouyang Tong is popular in the world. This was the first overhaul of Duobao Temple, and it became famous from then on. During the reign of Xuande in the Ming Dynasty around 143, the temple was burned by soldiers and immediately turned to ashes. Some monks threw themselves elsewhere, while others stayed and held on. Until later, when Yingzong succeeded to the throne, the court took a good view of it, so it allocated funds for reconstruction and set up two square stone pillars, called stone buildings, which were three feet high and two feet in diameter. One of them is engraved with "The Curse of Buddha's Top Winning Darani" on the front and "The Stone Building of Duobao Temple" on the back, which describes the reconstruction of Duobao Temple this time. After the temple was repaired, the imperial court also granted the Tripitaka Sutra and built a special Sutra Pavilion. The abbot decided to lead his disciples to Beijing as a token of gratitude to the Emperor. In Beijing, Liang was summoned by the young Emperor Yingzong and told him to manage the temple, promote Buddhism and broadcast kindness. He also gave three thousand pieces of treasure money as travelling expenses for returning to Shu. In ancient times, silk was a rope for wearing copper coins, which means a string. One silk (a string) is 1, words, and 3, silk is not a small number. A year later, Quantity and his disciples returned to Chengdu. Seeing that the tower in the north of the mountain gate was somewhat dilapidated, in order not to insult the emperor's grace, it was repaired and built into a tall tower. At this time, the Duobao Temple was not only tall and magnificent, but also planted tens of thousands of pines and cypresses around the temple. From a distance, it was really dense and full of bells and drums, and at this time it also began the biggest expansion of the temple in history. The temple includes a large field outside the Da 'anmen Gate, reaching Guancao Mountain in the east, Shahe River on the left of Duobao Temple in the south, Tugou in the west and Xiangbizui in the north, and more than 37 fields are included in its property. At that time, regardless of the number of acres, it can be said that it was rich for a while. This is also the most glorious time in the history of Duobao Temple. There are many monks and nuns in the temple, and they are thriving, and pilgrims from south to north all come here. Since Duobao Temple has gone through thousands of years and is so brilliant, why did it die quietly? After all, Duobao Temple is located in the suburbs, which is too far away from the city. At that time, the traffic was inconvenient, and there were no horses and chariots to walk with, so it was very inconvenient to come and go, so not many people came here. During the Qianlong period, the Duobao Temple was gradually deserted, and the incense was sparse. Occasionally, someone came and started a bird song. In the early years of the Republic of China, the world was in chaos. At that time, the abbot suddenly made trouble because of his lax discipline. A monk couldn't bear the loneliness, secretly ran out to drink and gamble, got into a fight with a soldier, and ran back to the temple. Warlords have long been eyeing this fat meat, so they came to the door, threatened and threatened, and took the opportunity to seize the temple land. Since then, the temple has declined and never recovered. Without incense and land, all the monks fled. Although the abbot's name suddenly changed, he still didn't. He couldn't help it. He took a look at the once glorious temple with his parcel and went back to his hometown to farm. The once glorious Duobao Temple was closed from now on. It is said that many years later, someone came here, and the temple had long been abandoned, leaving only broken bricks and tiles. In a barren jungle and thorns, you can still see the two stone buildings, one of which is engraved with the Lotus Sutra, which was established during Yongzheng, and the rest are nothing.
