In the eastern coastal areas of Virginia, winter temperatures rarely fall below -9°C and summer temperatures rarely rise above 38°C. The mountainous areas of western Virginia have cold winters and cool summers, with winter temperatures as low as -18°C and summer temperatures generally below 32°C.
