What is the history of the surname Zhang?

As a common surname in China, the Zhang surname ranks third in the new version of the Hundred Family Surnames, with a population of more than 20 million.

But if you look at it for five thousand years, there is no emperor named Zhang in Chinese history!

On Qingming, I returned to my hometown of Luoyang and finally got the answer.

Grandpa, buried on Mang Mountain in Luoyang, below the Shangqing Palace. Surrounded by fruit trees, you can have a panoramic view of all the customs, clouds, mountains, earth, rocks and trees. It’s truly a geomantic treasure!

Having the opportunity to visit the Shangqing Palace, I learned that it was the place where the Jade Emperor cultivated himself.

After a closer look, I found out that the Jade Emperor's surname was Zhang, and his given name was someone.

So, there is a folk legend:

Jiang Ziya was ordered to become a god. He also had selfish motives and wanted to keep the position of the Jade Emperor for himself, so when he canonized the gods, he deliberately left this position vacant. Back then, the Jade Emperor was a little immortal. He rushed to the place where Jiang Ziya consecrated the gods and found that there was an empty seat, so he walked forward and asked, "Who is this?" Jiang Ziya glanced at him and said, "There is someone!" Because the Jade Emperor was young and a little shy, he thought: " He didn't say it was me, maybe it's the same name!" He turned around and looked around, then returned to the altar and saw that the seat was still empty. So he went to ask Jiang Ziya again: "Who is this seat?" Jiang Ziya was busy dealing with the gods and immortals, and without looking back, "There is someone!"

The Jade Emperor was affirmed, turned around and sat on this seat, and became the leader of the gods and immortals. First: Jade Emperor.

After Jiang Ziya was busy conferring the title, he remembered the position of leader and was about to sit on it when he saw a dignified and imposing young man already sitting on it. At this time, Jiang Ziya was so anxious that he stepped forward and asked, "Who are you? Why do you sit here?"

The Jade Emperor smiled slightly and replied softly: "I asked twice. You all say 'there is someone'! But my last name is Zhang, and my first name is someone."

Jiang Ziya was so angry that he gritted his teeth and said: "From now on, the disciple named Zhang will never be able to call himself emperor!"

So China has been from Xia, Shang and Zhou to today. There is no emperor named Zhang in China!
