When is winter in Taiwan?
Winter in Taiwan starts in December and ends in February of the following year. These three months are the coldest three months in the year.
The summer in Taiwan is from June to September, and the weather is hot. The Taipei metropolitan area is a basin terrain, and heat energy cannot be dissipated quickly. Coupled with the urban heat island effect, the highest temperature in summer can often reach 35°C and above. The average temperature in July can be close to 30℃.
Taiwan Island is surrounded by sea. When the Siberian cold high pressure moves south from September to May every year, the cold air is tempered by the ocean, and the winter temperature is slightly warmer than that of South China.
In winter, the temperature in the plains north of Tainan occasionally reaches 4°C. The average January temperature in the central and northern parts is about 12 to 15°C, and the average January temperature in the south can be as high as about 18°C. Mountains above 1,500 meters above sea level, such as Hehuan Mountain, Yushan Mountain, and Snow Mountain, often experience snowfall from November to April due to their high terrain.
