Covered bridges mainly include wooden arcade bridges, stone arcade bridges, wooden flat covered bridges, wind and rain bridges, pavilion bridges, etc.
Among them, wooden arcade bridges are distributed in the mountainous areas on the border between Fujian and Zhejiang, especially in Taishun, Zhejiang. Therefore, Taishun is known as the hometown of covered bridges. There are more than 200 wooden arcade bridges in existence, and the ancient covered bridges are still in existence. At the end of 2005, counties and cities such as Qingyuan, Taishun and Jingning in Zhejiang and Shouning, Pingnan and Fuding in Fujian jointly submitted the covered bridge to the country for the preliminary list of world cultural heritage.
On September 30, 2009, the "Traditional Chinese Wooden Arch Bridge Construction Techniques" jointly applied by Pingnan County, Shouning County, Zhouning County of Fujian Province and Taishun County and Qingyuan County of Zhejiang Province were included in the list. UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Safeguarding.
