The role of Guanghua Building at Fudan University

The location selection of Guanghua Building is very particular and full of characteristics. It is located in the northeast corner of the Handan campus, facing south and facing north. It is connected with the mathematics building (Zibin courtyard) in the west of the campus and the physics building in the middle. Each of them forms a symbol, each reflecting the history and trajectory of Fudan's century-old development. Guanghua Building has a construction area of ​​120,000 square meters. There are 30 floors above ground and 2 floors underground. The entire building is 140.5 meters high. Since there are few "shoulder-high" tall buildings around, it looks like it is rising from the sky against the sky. Coupled with the fact that the twin towers are dependent on each other and the podium buildings on both sides complement each other, the building looks more proud, upright and elegant. Guanghua Building is a symbol of Fudan entering the new century, and its significance is far-reaching.

At the end of 2002, the design drawings that had been discussed for many times finally became a reality. So, the foundation stone was laid and construction began, kicking off the construction of the building. Cold comes and summer comes, winter passes and spring comes. In May 2004, on the occasion of Fudan's 99th anniversary, Guanghua Building completed its structural topping out. According to the schedule, the interior and exterior decoration of the main parts was completed in May 2005 and delivered for use in August.

Guanghua Tower stands tall in Fudan Garden with its majestic appearance. Whether it is the dawn of dawn or the setting sun, it adds to the campus scenery of "brilliant sunrise" or "double-floor gazing at the moon". At the same time, Guanghua Building has added a unique new landscape and cultural monument to Shanghai Yangpu.

According to the school's planning and positioning, the west tower of Guanghua Building is the office building of the liberal arts departments, and the east tower is the office building of the science-related departments; the connecting floors in the middle are the liberal arts, history, philosophy, mathematics and other departments. Reading material room, teachers and students are in the same place, resources are shared. The podium buildings on both sides are various types of classrooms and lecture halls. The whole building is equipped with air-conditioning systems in different zones, and there are fourteen elevators that take turns lifting. Network communication extends in all directions. All intelligent operations and management of Guanghua Building have improved the modern concept of university facilities and effectively served teaching and scientific research.
