Turpan does not belong to the south or the north, and Turpan and Hami are collectively called the eastern Xinjiang.

1. The geographical feature of Xinjiang is "three mountains and two basins", with Altai Mountain in the northernmost part of Xinjiang, Tianshan Mountain in the middle and Kunlun Mountain in the southernmost part. Junggar Basin is located between Altai Mountain and Tianshan Mountain, and Tarim Basin is located between Tianshan Mountain and Kunlun Mountain System. Turpan City is located in the middle of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, bordering Hami in the east, Hejing, Heshuo, Yuli and Ruoqiang counties in Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in the west and south, and Qitai, Jimsar, Rem County and Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture in Urumqi in the north.
