“Although the rain is wide, it cannot moisten the grass without roots; although the Dharma is wide, it cannot save those who have no destiny.” This is the couplet on the door of the back hall of Baima Temple.
Literally understood:
Although the rain from the sky covers a wide area and irrigates everything on the earth, it cannot moisten the rootless grass, because the grass absorbs water through its roots. Grass with broken or missing roots cannot be nourished even when soaked in water. Although Buddhism is omnipresent and encompasses everything around us, people who have no connection with Buddha have no chance to be saved in this life.
This sentence promotes the word fate. How can we be together if love is not intact? There will be no happiness if we are together without love
