Sima Yao (362-396), known as Changming, was the ninth emperor of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in China (reigned 372-396). He is the sixth son of Sima Yu, a Jin native, and his mother is Li Lingrong.

Sima Yao was made King Huiji at the age of four, and was made Crown Prince on the eve of Jian Wendi's death in 372, at the age of 1 1. Originally assisting Huan Wen, Huan Wen died in 373 and was appointed by the empress dowager from Sao Chongde. In 376, the Empress Dowager returned to power, and the real power was in the hands of the Xie family in Chen County, represented by Xie An. In 383, with the help of Xie An and others, he defeated the former Qin army and won the battle of Feishui, which saved the national luck of the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

Sima Yao took advantage of the talent gap of the gentry, broke through the political structure of the gentry, and restored the imperial power of Sima, so he replaced Xie An with his younger brother Sima Daozi and became the most powerful monarch in the Eastern Jin Dynasty since the founding of the People's Republic of China. However, he indulged in pleasure and debauchery, contending with Sima Daozi for power and profit, forming a situation of "the Lord and the Lord are at loggerheads", which led to the increasingly dim state affairs. Later, because Sima Yao was joking with his favorite Zhang Guiren after drinking, Zhang Guiren killed him in a rage at the age of 35. After his death, Emperor Xiaowu was buried in Long Ping Ling.

Sima Yao was good at calligraphy and literature. He wrote two volumes and died. Chunhua Pavilion Post includes his calligraphy work Wang Qiao Post.

When Sima Yao was born, he really took longevity as the word, and he couldn't help crying and said, "I didn't expect our Sima family's prosperity to be like this!"

Wash luxury and pay attention to Debike Chang. " Later, the name "Yao" and the word "Changming" were found in his wife's poems.

After Sima Yu died in Jian Wendi, eleven-year-old Sima Yao succeeded to the throne. At that time, he was still mourning for Jian Wendi, but Sima Yao didn't cry at night. He told the left and right: "Crying is a habit." Sima Yao said, "There is no greater sorrow than dying in your heart, so you will naturally cry. How can there be any convention! "
