When will the weather get cooler?
The sky will be clear when the eagle passes, and it will be dark when the geese pass.
The sky will be clear when the eagle passes, which means that the eagle has the ability to sense the weather. Therefore, when the eagle flies away, it will reflect the clear sky. will be longer. For eagles to fly and circle in the sky, there must be no dense clouds in the sky, high visibility, low air humidity, and little upper air flow activity. Eagles can fly high, usually after a weather system passes through. The goose is a migratory bird that loves temperature. Its living area changes with the seasons. They live in the north in summer and in the south in winter. After the autumnal equinox, geese leave the north and fly south. In order to avoid the cold, geese fly south when a cold front passes by. After the geese fly south, there is usually a cold front passing by, with dark clouds, and the weather turns cooler and rainier, so the clouds and geese pass by are dark and dark.
2. When a rainbow comes out to the east, it will rain; when a rainbow comes out to the west, it will be sunny. (It may be wrong, but it is usually: when the rainbow goes out to the east, it will be sunny, and when the rainbow goes out to the west, it will rain. The precise translation is: early rainbow rain, late rainbow clear) There will be a rainbow in the east in the morning, and showers in the afternoon.
The weather system in southwestern Sichuan and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau moves from east to west when it is strengthened by the subtropical high and extends westward. Therefore, it says: "When the rainbow goes out to the east, it will rain, and when the rainbow goes out to the west, it will be sunny. When the rainbow goes out to the west, it will be sunny." Out of the east, there will be showers in the afternoon. (When sunlight passes through water droplets in the clouds, the arc-shaped ribbon formed due to refraction and reflection is called a rainbow. The larger the water droplets are, the brighter the color. The rainbow appears in the opposite direction to the sun. In the morning, the sun is in the east, and the rainbow is in the west. In the afternoon, the sun is in the west, and the rainbow is in the east. Generally, the movement pattern of weather systems is: moving from west to east, and a rainbow appears in the west, indicating that the thunderstorm area from the west will move in, and there will be local thunderstorms. Rain; there is a rainbow in the east, indicating that the rain area is in the east, and it will move out to the east, so it will not affect the local area. Therefore, it is also called "rainbow in the east, rainbow rain in the west")
3. Earthworms on the ground. Climbing, raindrops float in the sky
When the air is humid, earthworms can sense it and predict that it will rain and flood their underground residences. Therefore, earthworms have to crawl out of the ground when the air is humid, such as steps, wall bases, and doors. The ground such as the fence is also wet, which is a precursor to rain.
4. Churun nine buckets of water, the moon halo causes wind and rain
The moon halo is when the moonlight passes through the ice crystals in the clouds. The phenomenon of refracted light turns into a colorful halo, with inner red and purple colors. Cirrostratus clouds are precursors of weather changes.
As for the phenological knowledge of the Yi people, it is reflected in the following Yi proverb (Erbi):
When you hear the cries of Bugu (birds), it is time to plant the land.
When you hear the cicadas, it is time to plant. Dao grass (weeding when corn grows cotyledons is called Dao grass)
When you hear the sound of the golden bell, use the sickle to harvest.
It can be seen that the ancestors of the Yi people determined the farming time and stipulated sowing based on phenology. , weeding and harvesting season
(2) The weather proverbs (Erbi) I collected are as follows:
The following are some that I collected while writing "Weather Journal". Some weather proverbs spread in Xide, Yuexi, and Ganluo. Because I don’t know Yi, the translation into Chinese may not be accurate. I would like to thank the relevant scholars for their advice!
1. The head of the Yi people is the wind, and the head of the Fan people is the rain
The head of the Yi people (that is, "black head") and the head of the Fan people (that is, "white head") refer to the top colors of the two clouds. In other words, "aconitum" is a type of cumulus congestus, and "whitehead" is a type of cumulonimbus. These two types of clouds often appear in summer. The clouds have a flat base and a raised top. It is composed of water droplets. The small water droplets in the cloud absorb and scatter part of the sunlight, making the cloud base and cloud top appear dark. The top of the "white head" cloud is convex. Due to the strong air convection, the vertical development of the cloud is getting higher and higher. It spreads and develops very vigorously, and soon occupies most of the sky. The top of the cloud is made of ice crystal structure, so it is white. Compared with the two types of clouds, the "aconitum" cloud is not as vigorous as the "whitehead" cloud, so it generally does not rain much or not at all. When it rains, there is only a gust of wind, so it is called "aconitum wind". But if the "aconitum" clouds develop vigorously and gradually turn into "white-headed" clouds, it will cause a stronger thunderstorm, so it is called "white-headed rain". (The men of the Yi ethnic group mostly cover their heads with black bandanas, while the women of the Fan ethnic group wear white bandanas.)
2. The north wind blows for three days
It means that in the spring, if there is a strong wind from the north, When cold air moves in, strong winds will blow. After the strong wind has passed, small waves of cold air will move intermittently behind it, and it will usually continue to blow for two or three days.
3. The fish scale sky is calm even if there is no rain
In the blue sky, you can sometimes see neatly arranged and dense small white clouds, which look like fish scales. In meteorology, It's called cirrocumulus. Cirrocumulus clouds generally appear at altitudes above five thousand meters and can only last for a few minutes to more than an hour after forming. The appearance of such clouds indicates that a low-pressure trough is approaching over the area. The weather on the ground generally depends on atmospheric movements at high altitudes. Therefore, cirrocumulus clouds appear when sunny weather changes to cloudy and rainy weather. "The sky is fish-scale, even if there is no rain, the wind will be bumpy", which is a sign of wind and rain. Generally, there will be wind and rain within a day or two.
4. "Zhigealo (Thunder God)" first reported that it will not rain heavily
In summer, the scorching sun is high in the sky, and the ground is exposed to strong sunlight, which makes the air in some areas It expands when heated and becomes lighter, and carries a large amount of water vapor upwards. The water vapor rises to the sky, cools and condenses into clouds. This kind of cloud is called a local convective cloud. It is small in scope and mobile. When convection develops, electrically charged thunderclouds are formed. This kind of cloud thunders and rains in the distance, and we can only hear the thunder.
There was only a shower nearby, so "it rains but not much". It is also known as "thunder comes before rain, and there is not much rain".
5. The black handkerchief catches the setting sun, and it does not set today or tomorrow.
In the evening of spring and summer, in the west of the sky, there are dark clouds like stone mountains standing to welcome the sun, and the sunset enters the clouds. The sky was no longer visible, and the crowd shouted, "Dark clouds catch the setting sun." This kind of dark cloud refers to Cumulus Congestus or Cumulonimbus, which is mostly caused by high and low altitude low pressure systems. Its movement pattern is generally from west to east, so it will affect the local area. Therefore, it moves at different speeds, most of which are relatively slow. It will not rain until tomorrow, so it is called "If it does not fall today, it will set tomorrow." (Black handkerchief for Yi men)
6. If the wind turns back, be careful of the calf being blown away
When the wind moves in a certain direction, if the direction suddenly changes, it means that there is a front passing through. There will be strong winds coming. Beware the calf being blown away is an exaggerated metaphor.
7. It will be cold when the geese fly south, but it will get warmer when the geese fly north.
Swan geese are a migratory bird that likes temperature. Its living area changes with the seasons. They live in the north in summer and in the south in winter. After the autumnal equinox, geese fly away from the north and fly south, indicating that "it will be cold" as autumn turns to winter. Around the spring equinox, it flies from the south and then flies to the north, indicating that winter is turning to spring and "the weather is getting warmer".
8. Driving sheep in the sky, even if it rains heavily on the ground, it doesn’t rain much
“Driving sheep in the sky” refers to the white broken and amorphous clouds blown away by the wind during the receding process of cumulus clouds. Scattered clouds ran as fast as herds of sheep. This phenomenon mostly occurs in winter and spring. Because the cold air from the north moves southward and is close to the local area, and moves quickly and has strong winds, the rainfall is swept away and there is not much rainfall. Then the local area is controlled by cold high pressure and the weather turns sunny.
9. Spiders spread and mend their webs. The weather will improve.
Spiders make a living by spreading their webs to catch insects. In windy and rainy weather, spider webs are often washed away. At the same time, the air is humid, and spider webs have poor stickiness, making it difficult to catch small insects. So before the storm comes, it takes refuge in a safer place. When the wind stops raining and the weather is about to become sunny, they go out to mend and set up nets to catch small insects. Therefore, when you see spiders repairing and opening their webs, it indicates that the weather will change to the sunny side.
10. The hens return late and the weather will turn cloudy
In the evening, if the chickens are reluctant to enter the cage, it is usually a sign that the weather will turn rainy. Chickens are animals that like dryness and are afraid of moisture. When the weather is about to rain, the humidity in the air is high, the temperature is high, and the air pressure is low, making the chicken coop even more humid and muggy. In addition, under such weather conditions, insects are more active in the evening. Chickens are reluctant to enter the cage because they are greedy for food. In the early morning, if the chickens come out of the cage early, it will also be a sign of rainy weather. There is a folk saying that "the early the chickens come out of the cage, the rain will come that day".
11. The stars have tears, and the rain is coming
There is a bright circle around the star, which looks dim and bright, which is called "the stars have tears." This phenomenon indicates that there are a large number of water droplets in the sky and there is sufficient water vapor in the atmosphere, which is a sign that rain is coming.
12. Wear a hat on a rainy mountain without rain clouds blocking your waist
When rainy weather comes, the clouds are relatively low and the cloud base covers the top of the mountain. The thicker the clouds and the lower the cloud cover, the more water vapor in the air, making it easier for rainy days to form. But if the mountain is wearing a hat and the clouds are not thickening; or if the clouds are rising after a rain, the "mountain is wearing a hat" is not a sign of rain. Therefore, there is a saying that "Wear a hat on a rainy mountain, and raise your hat when the weather is clear." The clouds blocking the middle are generally local clouds generated by cooling at night. The clouds are not thick and will dissipate when the sun rises, so it will be sunny in the future.
Explanation: Clouds cover the top of the mountain, which is called "mountain wearing a hat". When the clouds block the mountainside, the top of the mountain is visible, which is called "clouds blocking the waist". When rainy weather comes, the clouds are relatively low and the cloud base covers the top of the mountain. The thicker the clouds and the lower the cloud cover, the more water vapor in the air, which makes it easier for rainy days to form. However, if the mountains are wearing hats but the clouds are not thickening; or if the clouds are rising and the clouds are rising after rain, it is not a sign of rain. Therefore, there is a saying that "Wear a hat on a rainy mountain, and raise your hat when the weather is clear."
The clouds blocking the middle are generally local clouds generated due to nighttime cooling. The clouds are not thick, and when the sun rises, the clouds dissipate, so "clouds block the middle" and it will be sunny in the future.
13. There are woolen clouds in the morning and thunder and rain in the afternoon (make a blanket in the sky and pour water on it after playing)
In summer, woolly clouds sometimes appear in the clear sky, varying in size. , varying in height, are called flocculent altocumulus clouds. It is formed at an altitude of three to five thousand meters under extremely unstable conditions in the moist air layer. By the afternoon, due to the heating of the ground, the lower atmosphere is also in an unstable state, so the entire air layer is extremely unstable up and down. With such clouds, cumulonimbus clouds with thunder and rain will appear. Therefore, when this kind of "wool cloud" appears in the summer morning, you can know that there will be a thunderstorm in the afternoon. The old people told me that it was because the ancestors in heaven were making felts for winter, so the wool had to be soaked with water after it was stretched.
14. The clouds are fighting and the rain is pouring (the ghosts and gods are fighting in the sky, and the ancestors are in tears)
At the same time, there are overlapping clouds of different heights in the sky, and the clouds are moving in extremely different directions. It is inconsistent, and at the same time it is accompanied by some broken clouds, passing through each other, looking chaotic. This chaotic situation of cloud fighting is mostly caused by the presence of turbulent airflow in the air ahead of low pressure; or it is caused by the local confrontation between warm and cold air.
Under these two conditions, there is sufficient water vapor, the atmosphere is unstable, the clouds are very thick, cumulonimbus clouds often exist, it will rain, thunderstorms will occur, and there will be strong winds. The Yi people, who do not know much about meteorology, compare it to "the ghosts and gods in the sky are fighting, and the ancestors are in tears."
15. Swallows fly low, it will rain
Swallows feed on insects. When it is going to rain, there is a lot of water vapor in the air, and some small insects cannot fly high. It can only fly around near the ground. Small insects near the ground are active, and swallows fly low to hunt. And because the airflow before rain is relatively turbulent, swallows fly high and low when flying low, and they fly erratically. Therefore, "swallows flying low" are a sign of "it will rain". In addition, there is also a proverb among the people that "dragonflies fly low in the sky in groups, but it rains for three days", which is also true.
16. The northwest sky is unlocked and the sun is visible in the afternoon
On rainy days, if you see the clouds in the northwest direction of the sky dissipate and reveal a blue sky, it indicates that the weather will soon clear up. If in winter, after continuous rain, the phenomenon of "unlocking the northwest sky" occurs, it means that there will be frost after the weather clears up, so you should pay attention to frost prevention.
17. Rain falls within three days after sunset
In areas where strong convection occurs in the atmosphere and the air rises strongly, clouds develop thickly. In areas where the air sinks, clouds The block is thin or cloudless, thus forming gaps in the clouds, and the sun's rays shine down from the gaps in these clouds, resulting in "sunshot feet". When this happens, it's usually because the atmosphere is unstable. A low-pressure trough moves high in the sky and affects the local area, causing strong convective movements in the atmosphere. Therefore, "the sunset shoots at the feet, and the rain falls within three days." But if in the evening, the "shooting" caused by the stratocumulus clouds formed by the dome of Cumulus Congestus or Cumulonimbus collapsing and spreading horizontally, it means that the future will be sunny.
18. Direct thunderstorms are small, horizontal thunderstorms are heavy (thunders and rain are light, thunder and thunderstorms are big)
Local thunderstorms are generally clouds that develop vertically. , the range is also small, and the discharge phenomenon comes from top to bottom, which is called "direct thunder". Thunderstorms caused by this kind of cloud will rain for a short period of time and not much rainfall. When warm and cold air collide or a low-pressure area generates thunderstorm clouds, they form into sheets, are large in scope, and have an inclined surface. The shape of the lightning is relatively flat and slanted. This flat and sloping discharge phenomenon is called "horizontal thunder". This is a thunderstorm caused by a weather system. The rainfall lasts for a long time and the rainfall is heavy.
19. Frog Monger There is heavy rain
The skin and organs of frogs are sensitive to weather changes. Whenever stormy weather comes, they gather in groups and make loud noises. Especially before the arrival of thunderstorms in summer, frogs gather more and their calls are louder and denser. Repeated observations have proven that the phenomenon of frogs gathering in groups and screaming loudly always appears before heavy rains arrive, so it can be used to predict the weather. (Mengge means gathering in Yi language)
20. If the moon holds a red umbrella, it will rain heavily
The moon "holds a red umbrella" refers to a cloudless or cloudless night , the moon wears an obvious red halo, which is called "the moon holds a red umbrella". This phenomenon shows that the atmosphere is unstable, water vapor and dust have increased significantly, and the particles are larger. This is a favorable condition for heavy rain, so the moon "holding a red umbrella" is a sign of heavy rain.
21. The moon holds a yellow umbrella and there is little rain
The moon "holds a yellow umbrella" refers to a cloudless or cloudless night sky, and the moon wears a yellow halo. In this case, there are not many suspended matter in the atmosphere and the particles are not large. The suspended matter only absorbs and scatters the cyan, blue, and colored light with shorter light waves. The remaining red, orange, yellow, and green light have significant diffraction effects. The four-color light is composited It is the yellow light that makes the moon "hold a yellow umbrella". It indicates that the atmosphere is unstable and there will be rain, but it will not be intense, so it will rain lightly.
22. The moon holds a blue umbrella, it is stormy and cloudy
On a cloudless or cloudless night, if you see the moon wearing a blue light wheel, it is called "holding a blue umbrella." This shows that the degree of atmospheric instability is small, there are some suspended matter in the atmosphere, and the particles are also very small. The light with the shortest wavelength is absorbed. Given the nature and quantity of such suspended matter, red and orange light are mostly refracted, while yellow, green, cyan and blue light have strong diffraction power, causing the moon to "hold a blue umbrella". It shows that the weather does not change much, it is just a little stormy.
23. The moon holds a black umbrella on a clear day
On a clear night, the moonlight is bright and clear. Pay attention and look carefully, but there is a dark black disk around it, which is called the moon. Hold a black umbrella." The clear moonlight indicates that the atmosphere is dry and stable, controlled by a high-pressure weather system, and indicates that the future will be sunny.
24. Northwest lightning, strong winds and heavy rain pass quickly
In late spring and early summer, the cold air coming from the direction of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau is affected by the terrain being high in the northwest and low in the southeast. Cold air moves quickly, has strong winds, and cools down significantly. Because this cold air reaches the local area, lightning from the northwest can often be seen. Therefore, the masses said: "Lightning in the northwest, strong wind and heavy rain pass quickly."
25. Long-lasting clear weather, heavy fog and rain, long-lasting rain, heavy fog and clear weather.
Fog is the cooling and condensation of water vapor in the air near the ground. "Long-lasting clear weather and heavy fog and rain" refers to the occurrence of advection fog, which indicates that warm and moist air blows from the ocean, and is a harbinger of sunny days turning to cloudy and rainy days. "Long-term rain, heavy fog and clear skies" indicates that the low pressure has moved away, high pressure has moved in, the atmosphere has become stable, and the clouds in the sky have dispersed, which is a sign that the original continuous rain will turn into sunny days.
26. People die in the sky, and soon children will cry (there will be rain)
In the morning or evening, you can sometimes see the sun emitting beams of light from behind the clouds to the sky. These beams It can be stretched over the head and shot into the distance, just like the "Po Yi" used by the Yi people when they die. It is called "Sky Ray" in Chinese. It is a phenomenon that occurs when the sun is below the horizon and the upward rays pass through the edge of thick clouds or gaps in the clouds. When thick clouds appear on the horizon, it means that low pressure is moving nearby, causing the clouds to develop.
27. The ground is covered with fog in the morning, even though the clothes are being washed ("Hei Lue Ba Xia's surname" should be translated as "clouds come to the home", but it is not clouds but fog)
" "Ground fog" refers to a thin layer of shallow fog covering the ground. This is because the sky is clear and cloudless at night, and the heat dissipation from the ground is large, which lowers the temperature near the ground and causes water vapor in the air to condense into radiation fog. When the sun comes out, the temperature rises, causing the fog droplets to gradually evaporate, and the fog slowly dissipates, leaving the weather clear. The appearance of radiation fog indicates that the atmosphere is stable and it will be sunny that day, and may remain so for several days, hence the saying "one fog and three clear days".
28. Sun halo mid-night rain, moon halo noon wind (halo - here literally translated as horse racing circles)
When light passes through cirrostratus clouds, it is refracted by ice crystals. The seven-color composite light is dispersed into a halo or arc of inner infrared and purple, surrounding the sun or moon. This is the colorful solar halo or lunar halo. The appearance of halos is a sign that the weather will change. Generally, the heavy rain in the halo comes quickly; the light rain in the halo comes slowly, so it is called "halo mid-night rain". But it doesn’t mean that it will be windy and rainy every time there is halo. It depends on the development of clouds. The possibility of rain in the lunar halo is less than that in the solar halo, and there are only more wind and clouds, so it is called "lunar halo noon wind".
