What shadow puppet troupes are there in Taiwan?
There are five main shadow puppet troupes in Kaohsiung County in Taiwan: "Donghua Shadow Puppet Troupe" and "Hexing Shadow Puppet Troupe" in Dashe Township, "Fude Shadow Puppet Troupe" in Gangshan Town, and Miduo Township's "Yongxingle Shadow Puppet Troupe" and "Fuxingge Shadow Puppet Troupe". In addition, the "Huazhou Garden" in Taipei was originally a puppet theater troupe, and later the "Huazhou Garden Shadow Puppet Troupe" was established. He studied in mainland China.
The "Donghua Shadow Puppet Troupe" was formerly known as the "Sannuitan Puppet Troupe". In the early years, Zhang Zhuang founded the "Dexing Troupe", which is a well-known shadow puppet troupe in Taiwan.
"Fuxing Pavilion Shadow Puppet Troupe" was originally called "Xinxing Shadow Puppet Troupe". Zhang Mingshou followed Wu Tianlai, Wu Datou, Li Kan and Zhang Zhu to learn the "four books" of shadow puppetry. Later, Xu Funeng became his disciple Zhang Mingshou and married his daughter Zhang Yueqian. Four years later, he took charge of the "Fuxing Pavilion". Xu Fu is good at both the front and backstage, and is good at literary dramas such as "Cai Bojie" and "Su Yun".
The original name of "Hexing Shadow Puppet Troupe" was "Anle Shadow Puppet Troupe". Its founder was Zhang Liang, and it was later passed down to Kaikai and then to Zhang Gushu. Zhang Tianbao learned art from his father Zhang Gushu at the age of 13, and was good at singing and speaking; he also made Feng Shui and hairdressing his profession. Zhang Tianbao's fourth uncle, Zhang Jingquan, was good at gongs and drums. Zhang Tianbao has made great contributions to the collection and preservation of shadow play scripts. The troupe often performs dramas such as "Journey to the South" and "Feng Shen Bang".
"Yongxing Shadow Puppet Troupe", founder Zhang Li and his troupe members traveled to various towns and villages to perform in their early years. They were good at literary operas, but they did not use a fixed troupe name. Zhang Li's son, Zhang Wan, was good at the literary dramas "Cai Bojie" and "Su Yun" and the martial arts dramas "Xue Rengui's Conquest to the West" and "Xue Rengui's Conquest to the East". Zhang Wan's descendants Zhang Zuo and Zhang Sui, Zhang Sui also studied with Cai Longxi, Song Mao, Lin Wenzong and others. He was good at both front and backstage and was famous for his performances of "Six Kingdoms", "Five Tigers Ping Nan" and "Feng Shen Bang".
The founder of "Fude Shadow Puppet Troupe", Lin Wenzong, studied with the Yong'an artist in his early years. He is familiar with the front and rear, and is good at martial arts and fairy costumes.
