History of Tianchi Temple

Zigong, the salt capital of southern Sichuan, has a long history. It was founded in 1939 because of salt. Zigong is named after its main city: Ziliujing (formerly Fushun County) and Gongjing (formerly Rongxian County). The latter has a longer history. As early as about 1400 years ago, during the period of Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Gongjing Town was established because of the famous Dagong Well, and it was renamed Gongjing Town in the early Qing Dynasty. Tianchi Temple is a famous ancient temple, located on Tianchi Mountain not far from the ruins of Dagong Well.

The dusty Tianchi Mountain and the thunderous and snowy Pingqiao Waterfall in Xu Shui add a beautiful and unique temperament to the streets of Gongjing City. Cross Gongjing Bridge and cross the old street (this is the real old street! ) Along a narrow lane with well-preserved quadrangles in Qing Dynasty and Republic of China on both sides, and then winding up the mountain, you will reach the rebuilt Tianchi Temple. According to legend, the predecessor of Tianchi Temple is Song Renzong. Ten Fingers Zen was built in Chao Hai Temple in Jianfengling near Tianchi Mountain, and was later destroyed by lightning. When Zou Zhanchun was in Ming Taizu, he donated money, moved and changed his name. This kind of incense is becoming more and more popular, and his reputation is getting bigger and bigger. In the 4th year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty, Master Benwu and Juedao of Dacheng Temple in Emei Mountain came to the temple to preside over the construction of the Hall of Great Heroes, and the scale of the temple was greatly expanded. After hundreds of years of renovation, it experienced a process from prosperity to decline because of the turmoil in the world. Before the founding of New China, the dilapidated Tianchi Temple couldn't keep even the walls, so it removed the residual brick cornerstone and built a bunker for the civil war. "Rebuilding Tianchi Temple" deeply lamented this: "Whoops! Things have changed, the Zen forest has been destroyed, and there is no Buddha light to shine on. "

In the 1980s, under the government's policy of protecting religions, with the efforts of the current host Shi Huisheng and the support of people from all walks of life, Tianchi Ancient Temple regained its brilliance. 1985 was approved by the ethnic and religious affairs department of Zigong municipal government, and 1989 was approved as a cultural relics protection unit in Gongjing district. At present, Tianchi Temple covers an area of 600 mu, and Fiona Fang is 2.5 kilometers. There are newly-built Ursa Major Hall, Sambo Hall, Guanyin Hall, Pilu Hall, Chunyang Hall, Baima Hall, Jieyin Temple, Tibetan Scripture Building and Shifang. The Buddha statue is carved by a skillful craftsman from Zhejiang with exquisite mahogany, with a golden body and a solemn treasure. Buddhists come here to burn incense and worship Buddha all year round, and many tourists come here to watch as they please. Tianchi Temple regained its glory in the heyday of incense in the past.
