How do you read the Master Compass?
The precise compass is engraved with 360 degrees of circumference, which also represents the circumference of the twenty-four mountains, so it can be inferred from it. However, this method is inevitably more troublesome. At the same time, some old compasses do not have 360 degrees engraved on the sky. Therefore, the simple way is to judge from one hundred and twenty cents of gold. Because there is a circle in the Sanhe or Sanyuan Sanhe compass, each mountain is divided into five grids (i.e. one hundred and twenty cents of gold). Among these five grids, the middle one and the most side (one grid on the left and right) have no words, and the middle two grids have words. Taking Zishan on the compass as an example, there is a circle of small grids outside the human disk in the compass. Some of these grids have inscriptions and some are blank. In fact, these are the 120-cent gold sitting degree lines, which are in Xuankong. In Feng Shui, you can use it to determine the positive and negative directions of each character of the twenty-four mountains of the compass. For example, among the five grids in the Zishan area, two of the grids have the characters Bingzi and Gengzi. Another example is the five grids in the Renshan range. Two of the grids have the characters Xinhai and Dinghai. Once you find the content of this circle on the compass, which is one hundred and twenty cents of gold, it is easier to judge the 15-degree mid-range of each mountain. Because each mountain range has the same five small grids, and the range of a mountain is 15 degrees. In other words, each small grid occupies 3 degrees, and the five small grids are exactly the degrees of a mountain direction. Now that we have a method to calculate the distance in degrees of each mountain, we naturally have a method to calculate the 9-degree range in the middle of each mountain. As we all know, each mountain range has five small grids, the middle and the third grid with words on both sides, each grid has 3 degrees, 3×3=9 degrees. There are no words in the left and right boxes at the very bottom, which exceeds the range of nine degrees in the middle. When the vertical cross line on the compass presses on a certain character slightly, it has exceeded 9 degrees, that is, it presses on any of the two grids on the side of the golden circle, which is called both directions. If it does not exceed these two grids, it will still be positive in the middle three grids. If the vertical cross lines on the compass are pressed within the three small grids in the middle of the mountain, it is positive, and if it is pressed on the two blank small grids on the left and right sides, it is both direction. In Xuankong Feng Shui, there is a big difference between positive and negative directions in the star arrangement (the so-called star arrangement is to use the nine palace flying stars to match the hexagrams according to luck and to allocate the stars according to the direction of the mountain and the yin and yang). Xuankong Feng Shui stipulates , facing the star in the forward direction is the lower hexagram, and facing the star in the opposite direction is the alternate hexagram. This involves another issue, which I won’t elaborate on.
