Sichuan Renshouxiu Airport
Six major advantages of Chengdu’s second airport in Renshou Wangu
Recently, there has been a lot of talk in the society and on the Internet about Chengdu’s second airport being built in Wangu Village, Renshou County. . Yesterday, we contacted the relevant departments of Meishan City and Renshou County by phone and confirmed the reliability of the news. Why did Chengdu choose the site of Wangu to build the airport? Through various understandings, Wangu really has its unique advantages.
Meteorological advantages. As an airport, the biggest advantage of Wangu is its excellent weather environment. It can be seen from the map that Wangu is about 60 kilometers away from Minjiang River in the west and about 60 kilometers away from Tuojiang River in the east. It is about 30 kilometers away from Heilongtan Reservoir in the west and about 25 kilometers away from Sancha Reservoir in the north. These focus on the waters that produce heavy fog and have no impact on it. In addition, since the 1970s, local farmers in the Wangu area have begun to plant two-season fields. In autumn, the paddy fields are drained to grow wheat, rape and other dry season crops. For this reason, in recent decades, this area has been planted again throughout the year. There has never been heavy fog. Furthermore, Wangu is located on a shallow hill, making it difficult for bad weather such as thunder, lightning, and strong winds to form. A Category 6 gust is rare in ten years, a Category 7 gust is rare in fifty years, a Category 8 gust is rare in a hundred years, and a Category 9 or higher gust is rare in five hundred years. For flying, weather is life, weather is everything. There are natural conditions like this that are rare to encounter and cannot be sought, so why not take advantage of them?
Transportation advantages. Wangu is 70 kilometers away from Chengdu, with Chengdu-Yi Expressway, National Highway 213, and Chengdu-Heilongjiang Expressway (the scenic free road from Chengdu to Heilongtan) all passing by. It only takes 40 minutes from Chengdu. Next year, after the Er'eshan Tunnel is opened to traffic, the time will be even shorter. Meishan, Leshan, Zigong, Luzhou, Neijiang and Ziyang are all within an hour's drive, and can be reached in less than two hours from Yibin. Such traffic conditions are very beneficial to the airport. If there is heavy fog in the Chengdu area and the expressway is closed, passengers can reach the airport through National Highway 213 or the express lane without delaying their journey.
Regional advantages. After the Wangu Airport is completed, its benefits will be huge and it will directly attract a large number of passengers from Yibin, Luzhou, Zigong, Neijiang, Ziyang, Meishan and Leshan. The economic and social benefits will be particularly obvious. And it can well promote the rapid development of the Southeast Sichuan Economic Circle.
Environmental advantages. Wangu is located at the intersection of the three cities and counties of Renshou, Jianyang and Ziyang. It is far away from urban buildings and has many peasant houses. It is a typical scattered area. Compared with the western Sichuan plain, the population is relatively sparse. This reduces a lot of pressure on immigration, relocation, resettlement, compensation, etc. Coupled with the strong support from the local governments of Meishan City and Renshou County, the construction cost will be much lower than in other areas.
Geological advantages. The Wangu area has a typical geological structure of red sand shale layer, with a solid and good geological foundation. There is no special complex geological structure in the entire area, making it the best choice for building an airport.
Water source advantage. The East Main Canal of Heilongtan has flowed for eternity, and the natural and high-quality water source of the Minjiang River will ensure the needs of the airport. After the airport is completed, the high-quality Heilongtan water will be enjoyed by the airport forever.
Headroom advantage. In order to ensure the safety of aircraft taking off and landing, the height of artificial and natural objects in the vicinity of the airport must be limited to ensure that there are no obstacles to flight. There are no hills exceeding 200 meters on the east, south, and west sides of the Wangu area. The closest point to Longquan Mountain in the north is more than 20 kilometers away, which fully meets the operating conditions of the airport. In addition, Wangu is an agricultural production area, and farmers use pesticides for a long time to grow crops, causing many birds to become extinct. Even small birds such as sparrows are rare to see. Therefore, the headroom advantage of Wangu is particularly obvious.
To sum up, the natural conditions of Wangu are very superior, much better than those of the original Jintang and Jianyang sites. Because, if the airport is built in Jintang or Jianyang, the result will be the same as Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (due to the Tuojiang River Basin), unable to avoid the trouble of heavy fog and unable to achieve the purpose of building a second airport. Therefore, it is a wise move to choose Wangu to build the airport.
