How to get to Taihang Mountain?
It is located between the Shanxi Plateau and the Hebei Plain in China. It runs northeast-southwest, and some areas are close to north-south. It starts from the Juma River Valley in the north and reaches the Qinhe Plain on the border of Shanxi Province and Henan Province in the south. It is 700 kilometers long and is a folded fault-block mountain with a ridge elevation of 1,500 to 2,000 meters. Gneiss is exposed in the middle section, and the southern and northern sections are mainly limestone. There are obvious faults on the east side of the mountain. Many sections form fault rock walls of nearly 1,000 meters, which are majestic. The main peak is Xiaowutai Mountain, with an altitude of 2882 meters. The west side of the ridge turns into a gentle plateau. The rivers in the Shanxi Plateau flow into the North China Plain through the Taihang Mountains. The mountainous area is cut by the Juma River, Hutuo River, Zhang River, Qin River and other rivers, and has many transverse valleys, which is called Xing locally. Zhiguanxing, Taihangxing, Baixing, Fukouxing, Jingxing, Feihuxing, Puyinxing and Junduxing are known as the Taihang Eightxings. They have been the east-west transportation channel from the Hebei Plain to the Shanxi Plateau since ancient times. Taihang Mountain is also an important geographical boundary. To the west of the mountain is the Loess Plateau and to the east is the Huanghuai Plain. Mountains have a significant blocking effect on the summer monsoon, causing more precipitation on windward slopes and forming heavy rain areas. The leeward slope has a drier climate. There is also a strong seismic activity zone on the east side of the mountain due to fault activity. There are coal mines such as Jingxing, Lincheng, Fengfeng, and Liuhegou located in the fault basin on the eastern flank of the Taihang Mountains.
