When is World Meteorological Day?
1June, 960, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) designated March 23rd every year as World Meteorological Day. The predecessor of the World Meteorological Organization is the International Meteorological Organization (IMO). It was born in the international conference on meteorological information and technical cooperation held in Vienna in 1873. Later, at the Paris Conference in July 1946, Dr. Heisenberg, a Norwegian scholar, drafted the draft convention of the International Meteorological Organization and proposed that the International Meteorological Organization be renamed the World Meteorological Organization. The organization became one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. In September of the following year, 1947, the International Meteorological Organization held a meeting in Washington, attended by meteorological directors from 45 countries. The meeting reviewed the convention of the International Meteorological Organization and decided to take effect on the 30th day after the 30th country signed and ratified it. After two and a half years, this procedure finally came into effect on March 23, 1950, and the International Meteorological Organization was officially renamed the World Meteorological Organization. At present, 178 countries and regions have joined this organization, and China resumed its legal status in the World Meteorological Organization in 1972. In order to commemorate this event of great significance to human society, in June 1960, the World Meteorological Organization decided to designate March 23rd, the date of entry into force of the Convention and the date of renaming the World Meteorological Organization, as World Meteorological Day. Every year on World Meteorological Day, the World Meteorological Organization will set a publicity theme and organize some activities to arouse people all over the world to realize that the atmosphere is human's * * * and resources, and the protection of atmospheric resources requires the joint efforts of all mankind. The annual publicity theme expounds the relationship between meteorology and human survival from different aspects, as follows:
