Why did the emperor choose Mount Tai to meditate?

In the eyes of the ancients, Mount Tai was regarded as "the sky that went straight to the throne" and became a sacred mountain worshipped by the people and emperors. There is a saying that "Mount Tai is safe and the world is safe". From Qin Shihuang to Qing Dynasty, 13 emperors went to Mount Tai to worship or sacrifice, and 24 emperors sent officials to sacrifice 72 times. There are many famous mountains and rivers in China. Why is Mount Tai the only holy place for meditation?

First of all, the geographical location of Mount Tai determines it. The ancients worshipped the East, the sky, the sun and mountains, and Mount Tai is the highest mountain in eastern China, where you can see the sun for the first time, and it is also convenient for the emperor to communicate with the sky at close range. So many emperors want to worship Mount Tai.

Secondly, Mount Tai is located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River Basin, which is relatively developed in ancient times and has a splendid history and culture. This is one of the birthplaces of China's ancient civilization, so the sacrifice here is more for communicating with ancient sages, which is another reason why ancient emperors went to Mount Tai for meditation.

Third, and most importantly, ancient emperors imitated their ancestors to worship Mount Tai, publicized their great achievements, shaped their glorious image, and enhanced their historical weight.

Sima Qian quoted Historical Records Guan Zi Feng Chan and said, "The ancients sealed Mount Tai and had 72 Zen ancestors." Later, Sima Qian confirmed that twelve ancient emperors once worshipped Mount Tai: Wu Huai, Fu, Shennong, Huangdi, Zhuan Xu, Yao, Shun, Yu, Tanghe. In this regard, Wang Chong, a philosopher in the Eastern Han Dynasty, also recorded in On Heng Xu Shu: "There are 70 people in Wang Taiping, Kaifeng Mount Tai and Mount Tai." It can be seen that as early as ancient times, Mount Tai meditation has become a necessary national ceremony for wise emperors.

These ancient emperors, whether Chinese ancestors, wise men and masters, have made outstanding contributions to the Chinese nation. In the eyes of later emperors, it is absolutely a great honor to relive the glorious course of ancient emperors and keep pace with them in the worship of Mount Tai.

Guan Chan is a political means for feudal emperors to consolidate their imperial power, unify their thoughts and whitewash peace. Emperors of past dynasties established their supreme status, proved their appearance and consolidated their feudal rule by closing their doors to Zen and worshiping Mount Tai. It is precisely because of the emperors' worship of Mount Tai that the worship of Mount Tai played a decisive political symbolic role in the feudal dynasty of China and became a major event pursued by every emperor in his life.
