Many emperors’ dragon robes in history were yellow, but Qin Shi Huang’s was black. Why?
In many people's minds, the emperor's clothes are yellow, and only emperors can wear clothes of this color. Among the people, anyone who is found wearing clothes of such colors will be severely punished. But in history, not all emperors' dragon robes were yellow, and some were black, such as the dragon robe of Qin Shihuang in the Qin Dynasty.
Qin Shihuang was the first emperor in the history of our country. He unified the six countries. In order to consolidate his power, he implemented a series of policies and promoted the development of our country's history. With such great achievements, he also called himself the First Emperor. The reason why Qin Shihuang wore a black dragon robe was because Qin Shihuang was quite superstitious. He believed that the reason why he was able to unify the six kingdoms and establish a new dynasty was because of the yin and yang and the five elements. Therefore, he felt that the Qin Dynasty was founded on the virtue of water, and Water virtue is black. Therefore, in the eyes of Qin Shihuang, only black was his lucky color in the dragon robe, which could reflect that the unification of the six kingdoms was accomplished with the help of God, so the dragon robe was set in black.
And in the Qin Dynasty, their clothing was black. So as the most noble person in the world, it makes sense to set the dragon robe in black. Therefore, in the Qin Dynasty, every minister who went to court wore black clothes to show respect for Qin Shihuang. In addition, Qin Shihuang's army all wore black. If a color contrary to black appears where he can see it, he will be severely punished, so the court at that time was completely black.
Yellow dragon robes really became popular during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and since then the emperor's dragon robes have been yellow, which is also the color of the emperor's dragon robes in our impression.
