During the Daoguang period, a large amount of opium began to be imported into China, and many people became addicted to opium. Opium has seriously threatened the ruling position of the Qing government. Therefore, Daoguang had to appoint Lin Zexu as an imperial envoy and send him to Guangdong to ban smoking.

With a patriotic heart, as soon as Lin Zexu arrived in Guangdong, he launched a vigorous campaign against the wind and waves and banned smoking.
