The origin of Wanluo Mountain and the changes in ancient and modern times
Wanluo Mountain is a small hill located in Chizhou City. Before Taishun County was founded, it was commonly known as "Fan Luo Mountain" because at that time, the mountain was surrounded by a vast expanse of fields, but the farmers who cultivated these fields lived far away in the Baixi and Dongyuan areas at the foot of Tianguan Mountain. In order to not miss the farming season and save travel time, they would put their lunch in a bamboo "rice basket" when they left work every morning, take it to the field and put it on Wanluo Mountain, or hang it on a branch on the mountain so that they could eat during their lunch break. From a distance, the mountain is covered with rice baskets. Over time, this small hill became known as "Rice Basket Mountain".
As for the origin of the name of Wanluo Mountain, another explanation can be found in local chronicles. "Fenjiang Lu" records that Pan Tingmei rebuilt the Wanluo Mountain Pavilion and has the following record: "Before Wuyi Zhi, there was a small uplift. It is more than ten years old. When you climb to the top and look out, you can see the peaks facing away, the low battlements, and the heights of the houses. It encompasses everything, so it is named Wanluo. ”
After the establishment of Taishun County in the third year of Jingtai in the Ming Dynasty, the mountain was also called Yinshan because of its solitary peak protruding in front of the county government and its image like a seal. On Wanluo Mountain, there are lush trees and towering pines and cypresses. There is one The Pu tree is popular because its fruit "kupu" is ground into fine powder, mixed with some rice flour, and made into a paste. It can be made into a food like "nine-layer cake", which has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxifying. When the fruits ripen and fall, children go up the mountain to pick them up, laughing and snatching them from each other. It is very lively and interesting. Because of the lush trees, many birds and animals make nests here, among which squirrels are the most active. Enthusiasts came to capture it.
In the late Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the county magistrate Zhao Gong built a pavilion on the top of Wanluo Mountain for tourists to rest. Later, during the Daoguang period (1836), the county magistrate Chen Dianjie believed that it was on the top of "Yinshan". The pavilion was built on it, but it was demolished because it was detrimental to Feng Shui. Later, in the early years of Tongzhi (around 1865), the local gentry Pan Tingmei and others initiated the reconstruction of a two-story octagonal pavilion. .
During the Anti-Japanese War, Wanluo Mountain was renamed "Zhongshan Park", and a large hole was dug on the side facing the county government to build a "Monument to the Fallen Soldiers". From then on, "Yinshan" was revealed. In addition, a large bell weighing more than 800 pounds was hung on the pavilion on the top of the mountain as an alarm. Monitor the intelligence of the sentry and sound the preparatory alarm bell when the enemy plane is approaching; sound the emergency alarm bell when the enemy plane is approaching; sound the surrender alarm bell when the enemy plane has arrived to direct the evacuation of the people at the city gate.
Although Wanluo Mountain has its unique natural beauty and fascinating scenery, it has also suffered a lot of disasters. In the 1970s, the pavilions on the mountain were demolished and the ancient trees were cut down. After a while, the construction of a "cemetery" was stopped.
In the 1990s, with the initiative of the county elderly association, a second-floor octagonal pavilion was built on the ruins of the mountain. . The entrance of the new pavilion: the volume of the original pavilion has been expanded by one-third, and the design is more spectacular, adding a bright spot to the scenery of Wanluo Mountain and making Wanluo Mountain more beautiful.
Wanluo Mountain. The natural landscape of Luoshan should be protected because it has been a scenic spot in the county for thousands of years. However, due to people's weak awareness in this regard, "gateball courts", dance halls, and restaurants have been built on the mountain one after another, turning the original beauty of Wanluoshan into The landscape was fragmented, causing Wanluoshan to lose its original style.
