The Japanese proficiency test is organized by the Japan Foundation for International Exchange and its consortium, Japan Association for International Education Exchange, and has been implemented since 1984. It is a Japanese proficiency test for learners whose mother tongue is not Japanese. From June 5th to February every year, Japan organizes exams all over the world. By the end of 2009, 176 cities (excluding Japan) in 54 countries and regions have held this examination, with a total of 742,000 applicants. (In China, there are 70 test sites in 37 cities. There are no restrictions on age, occupation, education, region, nationality and school. China citizens with official identity cards and foreigners with passports can register online. The examination papers are sent from Japan to all parts of the world, and then all of them are sent back to Japan for unified marking, and the results are sent back to all places around March. The composition of the test papers and the distribution map of scores can also be registered in 35 countries and regions including China except Japan.

The requirement of the N 1 exam is to master a high level of Japanese grammar, with 2000 Chinese characters and about 10000 words, and have the Japanese level needed for barrier-free access to Japanese social studies. If you pass the first-level exam in China, you can apply directly to a Japanese university without going to a Japanese school or university preparatory course.
