Historical evolution of Shangyu District

Shangyu is one of the earliest counties in Zhejiang Province. Historical records and unearthed cultural relics prove that humans lived here in the Neolithic Age. Shangyu County is the fief of Yu Shun's descendants, and its place name is Yubin. In the late patriarchal society, Yu Shun avoided the Dani Rebellion.

According to Guo Moruo's textual research, there is a place name Shangyu in Oracle Bone Inscriptions of Yin Shang Dynasty. Shao Kang, the emperor of Xia Dynasty, belonged to Yue State.

During the Warring States Period, the State of Chu was the destroyed State of Chu.

In the 25th year of Ying Zheng, King of Qin (222 BC), Shangyu County was established, belonging to Huiji County.
