Xuancheng, known as Xuanzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province and the central city of the Yangtze River Delta. Located in the southeast of Anhui Province, it borders Changxing County, Anji County of Zhejiang Province and Lin 'an District of Hangzhou City in the east, Huangshan City in the south, Chizhou City and Wuhu City in the west and northwest, and Maanshan City, Nanjing City, liyang city City and Yixing City in Jiangsu Province in the north and northeast.

Xuancheng is a millennium county with a long history. Danyang County was established here in the Western Han Dynasty (BC 109), which was called Xuancheng County, Xuanzhou County and Ningguo County in previous dynasties. Xuancheng District was established in the early days of the People's Republic of China, followed by Wuhu District and Wuhu District. 1980 Wuhu District was renamed Xuancheng District.

Xuancheng is located in the south of the Yangtze River, with abundant rainfall, beautiful mountains and rivers and superior ecological environment. The two first-class tributaries of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Shuiyangjiang and Qingyijiang, are from south to north, and the three major lakes, Nanyi Lake, Qinglong Lake and Taiping Lake, are distributed in the east, middle and west in turn.
