In 1927, under the leadership of the Communist Party, the people of Honghu area set off a surging revolutionary wave, overthrew the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang and established a revolutionary regime. In the summer of 1930, when the main force of the Red Army left Honghu to open up a new area, the Kuomintang security regiment gathered local landlord armed forces to come back and attempt restoration.

The Honghu Red Guards and revolutionary masses who stayed in place and persisted in the struggle rose up to kill the enemy. Liu Chuang, the captain of the Red Guard, was filled with indignation and prepared to lead his team to attack the enemy. Han Ying, secretary of the township party committee, returned from the county committee and conveyed the instructions of the county committee to everyone. He decided to follow Comrade Mao Zedong’s experience in fighting the enemy in the Central Soviet Area of Jiangxi and use the "enemy advances, we retreat, the enemy is stationed, we harass, the enemy is tired, we attack, the enemy retreats" The guerrilla tactics of "I chase" do not fight the enemy head-on, but must be resourceful, courageous, and flexible to attack the enemy.

Behind the scenes

1. In early September 1960, the film started shooting in Qujiawan, Honghu Lake. Due to the fickle local weather, the filming of "Liu Chuang's Fishing" took three days to complete.

2. When the film was filmed in Beijing, it was a time of material difficulties. All the cast and crew only had a daily allowance of seventy-two meters, and they were so hungry that they were swollen. In the play, Han Ying was trapped in a cell and described as haggard. In fact, the actor Wang Yuzhen's swollen face was caused by hunger?[8]? Xia Kuibin, who played "Liu Chuang", was so hungry that his face was sallow and his muscles were thin, and the role of Liu Chuang had to look strong, so the makeup artist stuffed cotton into his cheeks and asked the photographer to shoot him from above.

3. Due to the persecution of He Long during the "Cultural Revolution", the film was banned and was not released again until early 1977
