Are there any urban legends in Shenyang?

It is said that Shenyang is a treasure land and is protected by seventy-two evil spirits underground. The detailed story of the legend is as follows. It is said that when Nurhaci established the capital in Shenyang during the Qing Dynasty, after the main construction of the city was completed, he personally inspected the main project. During the inspection, he found that the large city of Shenyang did not have a large drainage facility. He thought that if a flood came, the losses would be huge. It was too big, so I asked the minister in charge of water conservancy to inquire sternly. The minister replied that Shenyang is a treasure land of Feng Shui and is protected by seventy-two evil spirits underground. There is no need to waste money on drainage facilities. But Nurhaci didn't believe what he said and killed him on some charge (can't remember clearly). That's how it happened. A few years later, there was a flood in the imperial capital and heavy rains continued. Nurhaci suddenly remembered this incident and was very worried. He asked about the disaster every day, but the ministers said that there was no disaster. As soon as the heavy rain fell on the ground, it seeped into the ground. There was no water at all on the ground. Nu felt strange and remembered what the minister in charge of water conservancy said at that time, so he invited a famous old Taoist priest to look at Feng Shui. Unexpectedly, what the old Taoist said was the same as what the minister said. Nurhachi regretted it very much, as if he had given up on Feng Shui in the end. The minister was rehabilitated.

It is said that there was a scorpion spirit in Shenyang that often harmed the people. A Taoist priest passing by told the local officials that he killed 49 people who appeared to be chickens under a certain gate in the city during the Youshi period. Burying a human head in the soil three feet below the city gate can suppress the spirit. The local magistrate did as he was told, and sure enough, no more scorpion spirits appeared in the city. After the liberation, when the city gate was being renovated, it was said that a nest of thousands of scorpions, large and small, was dug out three feet underground.

Do you know the four east, west, north and south pagodas in Shenyang? It is said that the city of Shenyang is supported by a big turtle. I forget which era, there was an old earthquake. The local official at that time invited Taoist priests to come and see it, saying It was the Big Ao's limbs that were moving, so four towers had to be built on its limbs to suppress its limbs, so that there would be no more earthquakes in Shenyang. After the officials built these four towers, there would be no earthquakes. But it is said that it was demolished during the Cultural Revolution because of the destruction of the Four Olds. Then something bad happened, so it was rebuilt again. The four towers in Shenyang now were built later

During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Shenyang It became a dependent territory of the Yan State and was owned by the Sushen family who surrendered. During the Western Han Dynasty, the Han Dynasty established Hou County in the present-day Shenyang area, later Liaodong County, and in the Later Han Dynasty it was transferred to Xuantu County. From the middle of the Later Han Dynasty, Shenyang was governed as Xuantu County and was called Gaoguli County. Today, the relics of the Han Dynasty that we see in the Shenyang Museum came from the south bank of the Hun River, about 10 kilometers southeast of the city. It is speculated that this may be the seat of Houcheng County in the former Han Dynasty and Tujun County in the Later Han Dynasty. By the middle and late Eastern Jin Dynasty, Xuantu County was owned by Hou Yan, and the county government was moved to Xianxing in today's Korea. Shenyang was still called Gaoguli County. In 407 AD, Northern Yan destroyed the Later Yan regime, Shenyang was occupied by Northern Yan again, and Gaoguli County was abolished. Since then, Shenyang has belonged to the Northern Wei Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, and Tang Dynasty. During the Jingyun reign of Emperor Ruizong of the Tang Dynasty (710-711), the Bohai Kingdom established Shenzhou in the area of present-day Shenyang. At the end of the Tang Dynasty, Shenzhou was occupied by the newly rising Khitan people. In the sixth year of Shence (921) of Taizu Taizu of Liao Dynasty, Liao soldiers will establish Sanhe County on the north bank of Shen River. Later it was changed to Lejiao County. It became the seat of the Xingliao Army and Zhaode Army in Shenzhou, and its location is near today's Shenyang. In the Jin Dynasty, Shenyang was the seat of Shenzhou Xiande Army. In the early Yuan Dynasty, it was still called Shenzhou. Later, because Shenzhou was located north of Shenshui River, Shenzhou was renamed Shenyang Road (in ancient times, the north of water was regarded as yang and the south of water was yin). There is an ancient legend about the origin of "Shenyang". According to legend, there lived a young man named Brother Shen at the foot of Shizuitou Mountain (today's Zhizhu Mountain) on the north bank of Shen River. This year, the sinking water suddenly started to stir up waves, and the floods were raging. It turned out that the three-headed dragon king of the sinking water was causing trouble. Brother Yi Shen vowed to find the three-headed dragon and eliminate harm to the people. It happened that Yangmei, the third princess of Dongmei Dragon King, heard that her parents were going to betroth her to her cousin Shenshui Dragon King, the Three-Headed Jiao, so she ran to Shenshui Dragon Palace with her parents on her back, wanting to observe her cousin's character in person. Unexpectedly, the three-headed Jiao was there. There was a "boy's banquet", and when Yangmei saw it, her lungs exploded with anger, and she was determined to help Brother Shen get rid of the three-headed dragon. She took off her dragon robe and put it on Brother Shen, saying: "Put on the dragon robe and you can fly to the sky. You have to go into the sea of fire to move Brother Sun. Only Brother Sun's fire can burn the three-headed dragon to death." Brother Shen broke into the sea of fire, and the sun was so hot that Brother Shen was smoking, but Brother Shen still gritted his teeth, picked up the sun and ran away. Returning to Shenshui, the three-headed dragon was desperately dragging Yangmei into the water. Brother Shen quickly threw the sun over. The three-headed dragon was burned to ashes by Brother Taiyang, but Brother Shen himself could not hold on and fell into the river. Yangmei saw this.

Extremely anxious, he shouted, "Brother Shen——" and jumped into the river to save him. But she forgot that she had already taken off her longyi and gave it to Brother Shen. The villagers searched all over Shenshui but could not find the bodies of Brother Shen and Sister Yang, so they erected a monument on the north bank of Shenshui with the word "Shen Yang" engraved on it. Later, villages and cities were built around this stone tablet. This place was called Shenyang. Because it happened to be on the sunny side of Shenshui River, later generations did not know the story of Brother Shen, Sheep, and Sister fighting mosquitoes and dragons, so they mistakenly called Shenyang. It’s “Shenyang”
