Debris Flows
During the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake, there was no rainfall in the disaster area. Therefore, typical debris flow disasters did not occur during the earthquake. Most of them were debris flows caused by landslides. However, because the mountain has been severely damaged, loose landslide deposits are generally accumulated in the valleys, and aftershocks continue, during the rainy season from June to September, mudslides occurred in many places in the disaster area. The Beichuan debris flow on September 24, 2008 is a typical example.

When the5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake occurred, the quake disaster regions didn't have any rainfalls.Hence, the Earthquake didn't cause the occurrences of typical debris flows with the presence of large amount of water in debris. It caused many landslides which further transferred into debris flows with broken rock particles and blocks. However, due to the facts that the mountain-tains had been seriously shaken, broken and the gullies had accumulated numerous loose land-slide debris, as well as aftershocks continued to occur, some sites in the disaster areas occurred typical debris flows and their hazards. One of the typical events is the Beichuan debris flow oc-curred on September 24, 2008.
