What is the climate like in Germany?
Germany’s climate is determined by the relationship between air currents blowing in from the Atlantic and continental air masses. Because the intensity of the two changes constantly, the weather pattern is very unstable. The climate changes from hot to cold or from dry to wet very quickly and with high frequency. It is a transitional climate between the maritime climate of Western Europe and the continental climate of Eastern Europe. This phenomenon became a characteristic of the German climate.
The geographical locations of European countries are relatively northerly. But in fact, Germany has a warm climate and is very suitable for traveling. There are four distinct seasons here throughout the year. No matter what season you visit, just prepare clothing suitable for North China. The summers here are dry and the winters are warm, humid and rainy. Therefore, no matter how high the temperature is in summer, you will immediately feel cooler as soon as you step into a place where the sun does not shine. This is similar to Beijing. Summer nights are sometimes cooler, so it’s best to bring a sweater.
The winter in the north is surprisingly warm. Germany’s terrain is divided into three major areas: the mountainous area in the south, the hilly area in the center, and the plain area in the north. Contrary to the bright and mild south-central part, the north always seems to feel cold and dark. In fact, this may not be correct. The temperature in the north is indeed lower than in the south in summer, but in winter due to the influence of the ocean, the weather is actually warmer than in the south. In summer, the northern part of the country has short daylight hours and mostly cloudy weather, so it inevitably gives people a dark and sad feeling, but this can be regarded as a kind of travel fun. Otherwise, how about going to the north in winter?
Germany is located in central Europe. It is surrounded by nine neighboring countries: Denmark to the north, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France to the west, Switzerland and Austria to the south, and the Czech Republic and Poland to the east. Since the reunification of Germany on October 3, 1990, this central location has become even more prominent. It is a transportation hub between East and West Europe and between Scandinavia and the Mediterranean, with water, land and air routes passing through Germany. As a member of the EU and NATO, Germany is known as the "corridor of Europe."
Germany has a land area of 357,000 square kilometers. The longest straight line distance between north and south is 876 kilometers, and the distance between east and west is 640 kilometers. The outermost border points are: List on the island of Zelt in the north, Selfkant in North Rhine-Westphalia in the west, Oberstdorf in Bavaria in the south, and Oberstdorf in Bavaria in the east. Talisker in Saxony. The total length of Germany's border is 3,758 kilometers. In terms of area, Germany is smaller than France and Spain.
Complex and diverse terrain
Germany’s terrain is extremely diverse, ranging from rolling hills, plateaus, hills, mountains, lakes to vast and broad plains. It is divided into five major terrain regions from north to south: the North German lowlands, the medium mountain uplift zone, the southwestern medium mountain terrace zone, the South German Alps frontier zone and the southern Alps. The entire terrain is higher in the south and lower in the north.
Mild climate
Germany is in a cool temperate zone, with few temperature fluctuations. Rainfall is distributed throughout the year. The northwest is close to the ocean and has a mainly maritime climate. Summers are not too hot and winters are mostly not cold. As the terrain rises in the east and southeast, the climate difference increases. The continental climate features cold winters and hot summers gradually become more apparent. The coldest temperature can reach -10 degrees, and the hottest temperature is close to 30 degrees.
Smooth and mild are the overall characteristics of Germany's climate. The average winter temperature is between 1.5 degrees (lowlands) and -6 degrees (mountainous areas). The average temperature in the plains in July is 18 degrees, and in the southern valleys it is around 20 degrees. It is generally believed that April is a month of unpredictable climate in Germany, with heavy rains, floods, hurricanes, and heavy snows occurring alternately. Therefore, Germans who go out during this month generally bring umbrellas with them. May, June, September, October and November are good times for Germans to engage in various exchange activities. Various activities are generally arranged within these five months. July and August are vacation season for Germans.
