Yuanwuxinyao Sanshengtang School Notes
"Yuanwu Xin Yao" *** collects 141 letters. Initially, its main readers were monks. The "Zonggao Ruled Letters" is mainly aimed at lay people. "Zong Gao Chi Shou" focuses on introducing the introductory skills of meditation and Taoism to lay people; while "Yuanwu Xin Yao" focuses on helping monks to untie and remove bondage, explore and discern the situation, and go all the way up. Both have their own merits and characteristics, but both are enjoyable. If viewed together, the entire path of cultivating enlightenment becomes clear. For this reason, Sanshengtang decided to revise and annotate "Yuan Wu Xin Yao" as soon as possible to repay the four favors.
For the convenience of readers, starting from the first issue of this year, Sanshengtang also recommends the selection and publication of the annotations of some letters in "Yuanwu Xin Yao" in "Zen" magazine and "Zhengjue" magazine. For the enjoyment of readers.

A person who has attained the Tao stands alone and dangerous, does not oppose a single thing, does not move even a speck of dust when walking, does not only enter the forest and does not move the grass or water Unmoving waves? There is emptiness and stillness in the cover, and no illuminating power outside. I am ashamed [1] of being contented, and I have completely realized that I have no intention. Although all the opportunities [2] come suddenly, how can I disturb my mind and worry [3]? Ordinarily. Just stay in a leisurely place [4], like a fool [5]; when something comes, you don't make any tricks at first, just plan to cut it, and don't take the opportunity when the wind is whirlwind [6]. Isn't it true that you have always been conservative? This is the old virtue. Said: "Just like a person learning to shoot, it will take a long time to achieve the goal." Enlightenment is instantaneous, but practicing kung fu requires a long time, just like a dove born with bare bones[7], it will be raised and exhausted[8], and it will pass away over time. Deep, with feathers in place, you can fly high and far. Therefore, if the understanding is thorough, the government must be subdued. It's just like the realm of the worldly realm, which is constantly blocked by obstacles. Those who reach it are all empty-handed, and they are all the door to their own great liberation. Doing things all day long, but not accomplishing anything, having no joy or boredom, trying everything, but being unable to do anything, it is a case of boredom and laziness. , use the harmony [15] to take pictures, open the right and pitch to respond, so that [16] there is no error in the height, distance, and distance. Always do not walk lightly[17], learn to endure humiliation from the Immortal, follow the ancestral Buddhist rituals, achieve the Thirty-Seven Levels of Helping the Way[18], and strengthen the Four Precepts[19]. Before the great use appears, the noise and silence are unified [20], just like a boat on the water [21] and a pole without labor [22]. It is blended and absorbed, and it fulfills the vows of Samantabhadra, which is the great good knowledge in the world. Gu Gu said: "Three-family villages must have their own jungle [23]." There is no jungle, and even people with ambitions like to do what they want [24] When you get to the top, you should stick to it, but only by forcing yourself to be tireless. The end [26]. As for noise and silence, they are also complex: the noisy place is surrounded by changes, and there is silence in the middle. If the quiet place can not be bound by silence, then wherever it goes, it will be my living karma [27]. Only those who are emptied in the middle and smooth in the outside, and have fundamentals can do it [28].

A Bodhisattva bhikkhu was born, the predecessor of the Buddha. Whenever this Bodhisattva sees monks, nuns, Upasakas, and Upasikas, they all bow and praise you, and say this: "I deeply respect you and do not dare to be disrespectful, so why? You all follow the Bodhisattva path and deserve it." Become a Buddha." When people heard the words and got angry, they struck them with tiles, stones, wooden sticks, etc. However, the Bodhisattva of Everlasting Respect remained respectful, even seeing the four people, they also bowed and praised him as before. Therefore, the four types of increased conceit are called "always not light".
When this Bodhisattva was about to die, he heard the King of Sounds preaching the Lotus Sutra, and his six roots were purified, and his life span was extended. This is where the phrase "always do not walk lightly" comes from, which means to always practice respectful worship to all living beings. "Remembering the Future Buddha" in Jingzong should be related to this practice. [18] The Thirty-Seven Levels of Helping the Way: Also known as the Thirty-seven Enlightenment Factors, Thirty-seven Bodhi Points, Thirty-seven Ways of Helping the Way, and the Thirty-seven Ways of Helping the Way. If you practice according to these thirty-seven methods, you can approach Bodhi step by step, so it is called the method of Bodhi. [21] Launch boat: a boat that goes down the river. [22] Pengcha: A tool used for sailing. Peng, musical instrument, bamboo pole used to punt a boat. 湣, yinzhao, an oar used for paddling. Sanjia Village is a small and remote village. Must, must, should. Oneself, oneself. [24] Ziyi: casually, casually. [26] This sentence means that after leaving the jungle, even a spiritual practitioner with Taoism and perseverance can easily fall into laziness and let go. At this time, it is especially important to When it comes to kung fu, do it with all your strength, and from beginning to end, work tirelessly without losing your mindfulness. What, this situation. [27] As for noisy and quiet environments, we should also be vigilant. In a noisy environment, if you can keep your mind still and cope with it freely. In a quiet environment, you will not be bound by the emptiness and stillness, and you will not lose your agility. If you can do this, then wherever you are, everything should be connected to you, and everything will be mine. Great opportunities and great uses are revealed. Live karma refers to big opportunities and great uses. [28] Only those who have realized emptiness in their hearts and can freely adapt to the external environment without losing their own responsibilities can achieve the state of "everywhere they go is my living karma".
As a good teacher, you should be compassionate, gentle, and adaptable to things, and treat yourself with equality and no criticism. He comes with evil intentions (one word is "seeking"), adds evil names and colors to me [1], is unreasonable [2] slanders [3] and humiliates me. In the fight, I don’t think about anger, I just sit down and stop [5], just like before, I don’t hear or see, and the evil will disappear for a long time. If you compare it with it, the evil voice will be the opposite, how can there be any hope [6]? And it does not show its own strength, how can it be different from Changliu [7]? If you do it with all your strength, you will naturally have no thought and dissatisfaction [8].
Under the brush of the vertebrae [9], it develops man and nature [10], so that he can escape from life and death. Isn't it a small cause and effect? Ying Tianhe's words and colors should be used at the right time. Correspondence [11] to identify its origin, verify its existence and sitting position [12], attack where it falls [13], seize its attachment, give direct instructions, let it see the Buddha nature, and reach a place of great rest and peace. As the saying goes, "pull out the nails and pull out the wedges, untie the sticks and remove the bonds." You must not attach the real Dharma to others, causing them to live in this way and hold on to it in this way. Don't let others push you down[15], this is poison; let him eat it, carry the burden[16] and make mistakes[17] all his life, is there any benefit?

Therefore, those people in the sect who have paranoid views and cannot be tactful are called "panban men". [17] Make mistakes: deceive and confuse.
When the Buddha came out, he specially sang about this great cause and condition, which he called "single transmission of the heart seal". He did not set up words and sentences, but took the best opportunity. He just heard it and realized it a thousand times. He took up the practice directly and did not seek fame. Hearing benefits and cultivating them is all about being able to escape from life and death.
Now that we are his children and grandchildren, we must preserve it for planting grass [1]. Look at him, a great man of Taoism in ancient times. His actions are [2] subduing dragons and subduing tigers, receiving precepts from the gods, fighting hardships and eating indifferent food [3], forgetting about the world, and leaving this world forever [4]. He cooks and eats after thirty or twenty years. , hiding their names, often sitting and dying. In one or half of them, all the saints came out and established the sect. They all upheld high conduct, repaid the Buddha's kindness, and circulated the Dharma. They started to speak a word or a half, out of reluctance, knowing clearly that they were opening the door to the truth, knocking on the door and knocking on the door. The power of its themes can be [5] a model for Hou Kun. It is advisable to follow the example[6], encourage others, and restore[7] the ancient customs, and avoid seeking fame and profit[8]. My deepest wishes[9].
When Mazu returned to his hometown in the past, he was ridiculed by the dustpan and was afraid of the difficulty of walking. Because he came out of the gorge again, he met Jiangxi[10]. After returning to his hometown during the Great Sui Dynasty, he spent three years at Longhuai Road where he had tea and made friends, then hid in a wooden nunnery and traveled to Shu [11]. Xianglin returned to his hometown in the past, and his latent spirit shone in the Crystal Palace. It has been a matter of forty years[12], he has set the right Zhimen Lao Zuo[13], found Xuedou[14], and the great Yunmen sect[15]. Either it stays or it comes out again, all due to fate [16]. Now that I have returned from thousands of miles west, I still have my script and journal, so there is no need to detain him.
[1] Planting grass: It is like talking about Buddha seeds, which means that Buddha nature is for people, just like the seeds and buds of plants and trees, everyone has it, hence the name. The old woman by the stream said, "What's so strange about this? He's a boy from the Ma Chun Ji family!" The master then said, "I advise you not to return to your hometown. It's impossible to return home. The old lady by the stream calls me by my old name." Jiangxi." Later, some people called Mazu "horse dustpan", which is where the name comes from. [11] In the Sui Dynasty, he became a great sui, that is, Dasui Fazhen, a Zen master in Yizhou (now Chengdu, Sichuan). He was the Dharma heir of Zen master Da'an in Changqing. He was a native of Zizhou (now Santai County, Sichuan), and his common surname was Wang. He became a monk when he was young and paid homage to Yaoshan, Daowu, Yunyan, Dongshan and other great Zen masters. Later, under the seat of Zen Master Dawei, I got the key points. Several years later, Zen Master Fazhen said goodbye to Weishan and returned to Xichuan. He stayed at Longhuai Temple in Pengkou Mountain, Tianpeng, where he cooked tea by the roadside every day and gave alms to passing guests for three years. In the back mountain of Longhuai Temple, Zen Master Fazhen once discovered an ancient temple named Dasui. The peaks surrounding the temple are towering and beautiful, and the streams are clear and clear. There is an ancient tree in the middle, with a circumference of more than four feet. There is a mouth on the south side of the tree. It is shaped like a door, hollow and unobstructed. It is a natural small nunnery. Zen Master Fazhen then moved here and named it "Muchan Nunnery". When Zen Master Fazhen was dying, he gave a wonderful performance for his disciples - all the monks came to attend. Zen Master Fazhen used his mouth to make trouble, with the corners of his mouth crooked and his face distorted. Zen Master Fazhen said to everyone: "Is there anyone who can cure me?" The monks competed to send medicine, and the lay people heard about it and sent more medicine. Zen Master Fazhen would not accept it. Seven days later, Zen Master Fazhen slapped his mouth to make him recover as usual, and said to everyone: "I have been suffering from these two pieces of skin for a long time, but no one has been able to cure him." After saying this, he sat upright and passed away. When he was about to die, he said to the magistrate Song Gongjue: "Old monk, go on a journey!" Tongjian said: "This monk is crazy. He is eighty years old and is traveling there!" Song said: "Great virtuous teacher, go and live in freedom." The master said to the crowd. : "It took forty years for the old monk to become one." After saying this, he passed away. [13] Zhimen Laozuo, that is, Zen Master Zhimen Guangzuo, the heir of Zen Master Xianglin Chengyuan, a native of Zhejiang. After becoming a monk, he went to Sichuan to visit Chengyuan in the fragrant forest and received the seal of the heart. Later he returned to Suizhou Zhimen to live in the mountains and preach the Dharma. The most famous disciple among them is Xuedou Chongxian. [14] Find out Xuedou: Soon, Xuedou came out and showed himself such a Zen master. Looking for it soon. [15]Da: Guangda. In the past, Ci Ming left Fenyang and said: "There are people who build it, and it is mainly based on Buddhism." To promote the Linji orthodox sect, he won the three great masters Yang Qi, Huang Long and Cuiyan [4], and his descendants spread all over the world, and they lived up to the teachings [5].
The ancients did not take this lightly when choosing people who could carry heavy burdens. Believing in decorating a magnificent Buddhist garden is not enough to marvel at the Buddha's Dharma [6].
Buddha's path is vast[7] and can be achieved by hard work over a long period of time. Under the sect of the ancestor, people with broken arms stand up in the snow[8], pound waist stones[9], carry wheat carts, cook in the garden, open fields, serve soup and tea, and grind the earth[10], all of which resist the customs of the world. 11]. Those who strive for success by constantly striving for self-improvement can do it. As the saying goes, "There is no way to survive from laziness and laziness." Now that we have penetrated the origin, it is difficult and dangerous, and those who cannot reach it can still do it. Pitching [12] and saying it can't be done? If you don't do it, it's not impossible. When you press the cloud head for a moment, you can be alert and take measures. Isn't it good for common people? [13] The convenient door is wide and open, isn't it good?
