The Traces of Time (85) - Visiting Relatives and Friends in Qujing
? Qujing, several relatives of our family, as well as several of my sister’s comrades who participated in the revolution, all live there. My wife and I came to Kunming to visit relatives. My sister wants us and my brother to accompany her to Qujing to visit relatives and friends. Of course I am very happy. First, come and meet relatives you haven't seen for decades, talk to them about their living conditions, and greet them. Secondly, you can see the scenery of the second largest city in Yunnan Province that you have never been to before.
After getting off the train, it was already noon. My cousin’s son-in-law drove the four of us to the restaurant for dinner. Seven or eight relatives and friends were already waiting at the dinner table. We greeted and shook hands one by one, and the affection was transferred from our hands to our hearts unknowingly.
My cousin and I have not seen each other for decades, and we no longer recognize him. My cousin who moved to Qujing from Shanghai visited our home in Beijing more than ten years ago. None of the other juniors knew him. Seeing each other again after a long absence is particularly cordial. Talking about the changes over the decades, looking at the aging of the face, I lamented that time is not forgiving. My cousin moved from his hometown of Huize to Qujing more than ten years ago due to the death of his wife. In the afternoon, we went to visit our cousin’s house. The house is very big. It is a three-bedroom apartment that his daughter and son-in-law rented for him. They come over every morning and cook three meals for her dad. As for my cousin, he goes to a nearby park every day to play, exercise, and live freely. He is so happy. He said that his daughter and son-in-law who came here took good care of him and he lived a very happy life. I was so moved that I later wrote an article about "A Good Son-in-Law Who's Closer Than a Son" and published it in Yunnan Senior News and Qujing Daily.
The next morning, we went to Qilin Water Village Water Park with my brother’s mother-in-law and her daughter. I happened to meet a group of kindergarten children going to the park under the leadership of their teacher. We old children wanted to take photos with these beautiful flowers of our motherland. The teacher happily directed the children to line up and take pictures, and our hearts suddenly became younger like the children.
We took the sightseeing bus in the scenic area to distant scenic spots to have a panoramic view of the water town scenery in the scenic area. We returned to the city in the afternoon, rested and chatted at my mother-in-law’s house, and enjoyed a sumptuous dinner prepared for us by my mother-in-law’s daughter and son-in-law.
In the evening, my sister went to visit some of her old comrades who participated in the revolution in 1949. Seventy years later, the deep comrades-in-arms are indescribable and will never be forgotten.
On the third day, our cousin’s family invited us to play in Liaokuo Park. The park has animal tourist areas (Monkey Mountain, Deer Park, Peacock House, etc.), a monument to revolutionary martyrs, and the Jingning Pagoda, the highest building in Qujing and the third tallest nine-story pagoda in China.
We also went to the South City Gate Scenic Area and took photos in front of the bronze statue of Ashima Ahei. Ashima Ah Hei's beautiful love story is not only popular in the hearts of the people of Yunnan, but has also been made into a movie and shown at home and abroad.
Qujing is the first big city at the source of the Pearl River. The Pearl River, the third largest river in my country, has its source in Maxiong Mountain in Qujing City. The clear springs flow out of the water outlet tunnel and then flow into the Pearl River water system of Nanpan River, Beipan River, and Niulan River respectively. Qilin Park in the main city of Qujing A sculpture of the Three Rivers Goddess is built in the square, singing the praises of the fertile land irrigated by the Qujing Mother River.
? The origin of the name of Qilin District, the main urban area of Qujing, once had a romantic legend: In ancient times, there was a severe drought in Qujing City and the people were in dire straits. At this time, a beautiful fairy came riding a unicorn from the sky. , a sweet rain fell, the earth returned to spring, and everything prospered. People named this Feng Shui treasure land after "Qilin" and gave it a beautiful meaning of good fortune and health.
Qujing has been rated as one of the top ten livable cities in China and a national-level sanitary city many times.
Out of yearning for the top ten places to live, especially its pleasant climate and low consumption level, my wife and I came to Qujing twice to enjoy the pleasure of residence-style retirement care.
We also visited Qilin Park, Qilin Garden, Longtan Park, Pearl River Source Ancient Town, Ruihe Park and Sanyuan Palace Park.
Sanyuan Palace was built to commemorate the Red Army passing through Qujing.
In April 1935,
Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and other Red Army leaders came to Sanyuan Palace, held a joint meeting of the Military Commission, and made an important strategic decision to cross the Jinsha River and establish a base in western Sichuan. At four in the morning Continue starting from Sanyuan Palace.
The Sanyuan Palace Meeting was an important meeting held by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Revolutionary Military Commission after the Zunyi Meeting and the Tashi Meeting during the Red Army's Long March. This meeting correctly analyzed the environment in which the Central Red Army was located at that time and the situation of the struggle between the enemy and ourselves, and made a major strategic decision to move westward and northward to quickly cross the Jinsha River and establish a Soviet area in western Sichuan. It also implemented strategic shifts to preserve the effective strength of the Red Army and successfully cross the Jinsha River. Jiang, all have great decisive significance.
After visiting Sanyuan Palace, I learned that Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and Zhu De had visited Qujing during the Red Army’s Long March and led the Red Army in a desperate struggle against the national reactionaries. We know more about the hardships of the revolution, and we know how hard-won today’s happy life is. We must inherit the glorious revolutionary tradition of the Red Army and march forward bravely in the new long march for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
During our stay in Qujing, we saw many tourists coming from Sichuan and Chongqing to escape the summer heat, and some of the restaurant owners and hotel owners we met were brought from Sichuan and Hebei. They start a business and buy a house here, and plan to retire here. They happily said that the climate here is pleasant and prices are low, and they are ready to live here for the rest of their lives. I think it is indeed a wise choice to settle down in one of the top ten livable and hygienic cities in the country if you have the conditions.
