Introduction to Panlong District

Panlong District has a long history and splendid ancient culture. As early as 30,000 years ago, there were ancient human activities in Panlong Land. As far back as the Neolithic Age, this place has become a place where humans thrive. During the Warring States Period, it had entered the Bronze Age with a relatively high cultural level and rapidly transitioned to the Iron Age. In the first year of Yongtai of Tang Dynasty (765), Nanzhao Wangge Luo Feng sent his eldest son Feng Jiayi to build the east city in Kunming, with the intention of "opening up the eastern territory". The site of Tuodong City is between today's Panjiang River and Jinzhi River, which is most of today's Panlong District. The construction of Tuodong City ushered in Kunming's urban development. Since then, the political, economic and cultural centers of the Dianchi Lake area and even the entire province of Yunnan have gradually shifted here, laying a solid foundation for Kunming to become the center of the province. The Yunnan Province was established in the Yuan Dynasty, Zhongqing Road Office was set up in Kunming, and the provincial government was moved from Dali to Kunming, officially becoming the economic, political, cultural and transportation center of the province. At this time, in the Panlong area, “Twin towers towered up to the sky, and a bridge crossed the rainbow of the sun; thousands of ants gathered in Yunjin, and thousands of ships were hived in the city walls; everything from Sichuan and mainland was enriched by the people of Kunming. "People", a prosperous and magnificent scene. Extending to the Ming and Qing dynasties, Kunming City was the capital of Yunnan, and most of the province's important administrative agencies were located in Panlong District. On October 30, 1911, the people of Kunming held the "Chongjiu Uprising" in response to the Revolution of 1911 and overthrew the Qing Dynasty's rule in Yunnan. In 1913, Yunnan Prefecture was abolished and renamed Kunming County. In 1922, Kunming Municipal Government was established. In 1928, the Municipal Office was changed to the Municipal Government, and Kunming's municipal system was officially established. After the peaceful liberation of Yunnan, Kunming adjusted its administrative divisions from 8 districts during the National Period to 6 districts. In 1953, it was adjusted again and the city was divided into districts one, two, three and four. In 1956, the first and third districts were merged. On October 19, with the approval of the Yunnan Provincial People's Committee, Panlong District was officially established. Panlong Land has been a "feng shui treasure land" with prosperous commerce and trade since ancient times. As early as the Yuan Dynasty, it was famous for its "large number of businesses". By the time of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, "merchants from all over the country gathered together", "the houses were stacked with stairs, and the goods were piled up in mountains and seas".

On July 22, 2004, with the approval of the State Council, Yunnan Province made major adjustments to the administrative divisions of Kunming City. After the zoning adjustment, Panlong District is located in the northeastern area of the main city of Kunming, and has jurisdiction over 8 sub-district offices including Huancheng, Zhuji, Donghua, Dongjiawan, Tuodong, Lianhe, Ciba and Longquan and 3 Xiaohe, Shuanglong and Shuangshao Township. The regional area increased from 15.1 square kilometers to approximately 340 square kilometers, and the built-up area reached 45.79 square kilometers. Following the master plan of Kunming City, the initial development ideas of Xinpanlong are: to pursue the harmonious development of people and the environment as the highest value orientation, to aim at the harmonious development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, to create a strong industrial area, and to be driven by industrialization Urbanization and urban-rural interaction will create a strong green economic zone with distinctive characteristics in the construction of a modern new Kunming.
