What is Yancheng?

Yancheng is located in the south of Changzhou, about seven kilometers away from the urban area. It is the earliest and most complete ground ancient city pool in China from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Spring and Autumn Period. It is said that it is also an ancient city in the shape of three cities and three rivers in the world, covering an area of about 0.6 square kilometers. It has a history of nearly 3000 years and is now an important cultural relic protection unit in China.

Historians and archaeologists have different opinions about the origin and owner of Yancheng, and there is no conclusion yet. According to legend, Yancheng was the capital of the late Shang Dynasty and the early Zhou Dynasty, and it was the monarch east of Qufu, Shandong Province at that time. According to legend, when Zhou Chengwang was killed by Zhou Chengwang, he colluded with Wu Geng, a descendant of Shang Dynasty, and led the remnants to flee from Lu to the south of the Yangtze River, digging rivers for ravines and heaping soil for cities. It is still called "Yan". Because the ancient word "Yan" is not the same as the word "Yan", it has been passed down to this day, hence the name "Yancheng". On the other hand, at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, Ji Zha, the son of Wu, was dissatisfied with He Lv's assassination of Liao Wang to seize the throne and was determined to break away from He Lv's violent politics. He "never entered Wu" and built a city in Yanling to dig a river and seal land to show his determination to stay for a long time. According to historical records, the ancient city wall of Yancheng is 20 meters high and 25-30 meters wide, all of which are rammed with mud.

After 3000 years of ups and downs, the rest are masterpieces of nature. There are plenty of clear water, geometric monuments left by Woye for thousands of years, and many splendid cultures of the Chinese nation are hidden underground. Being in it is like entering a paradise, giving people an ancient, quiet and profound feeling. People here have a saying: "Beijing in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Xi 'an in Sui and Tang Dynasties, Yancheng in Spring and Autumn". It can be seen that "Yancheng is an extraordinary attraction in people's minds. The central government and relevant departments of provinces and cities decided to speed up the development of Yancheng and make it one of the famous scenic spots in Taihu Lake Scenic Area.

Since 1958, a large number of geometrically imprinted pottery pots, jars, urns, bowls and bronzes (such as bronze bells and bronze dings) have been unearthed in Yancheng. The single wooden boat excavated in the inner city caused a sensation in the archaeological circles of China. The largest one is carved with a whole nanmu fire axe, with a length of 1 1 m and a width of 0.9 m.

Ten Legends of Yancheng

Legend 1: The tortoise saves the election.

According to legend, during the Shang Tang period, there was a catfish (Mi m 4 n, the ancient name of water, in today's Shandong Province) in the Siwen Valley on the south side of Mount Tai. Guo Fang is a tribe with Guo Fang as its surname and has the custom of worshipping turtles. Therefore, the combination of "chinemys reevesii" as the country name marks the sublimation of the sacred image of its national emblem: the tortoise family is an election family.

Later, because the Yi people followed the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, they were defeated by Zhou Wuwang when they attacked Yinzhou. The minority population moved to the east of Qufu, Shandong Province. Unexpectedly, a few years later, because he participated in the "three prisons" rebellion, the country was once again driven away by Zhou Gongdan in his crusade, and the monarch was disabled. The tribe had to support the new king and move to Huaiyi's land. However, the new king of the Zhou Dynasty was king, worried that the Yi people still had the heart of rebellion, and wanted to kill them all, and then he quickly sent his troops and personally conquered them. Little helpless, had to take people to the southeast to escape.

They fled to the Yangtze River, but were stopped by the surging river. Yan Jun Jr. was at a loss when he heard the sound of pursuers getting closer and closer. He looked up at the sky and sighed, "Heaven is killing me!" " I want to jump into the river to kill myself. At this time, a turtle he carried with him suddenly said, "Don't worry, master!" " "Then jump out of the car. This is a six-legged strange turtle, which is rejected by others. It was brought up from childhood. I saw the six-legged turtle quickly climb to the water's edge and craned its neck to drink water. But I heard the current rushing and was sucked into my stomach by the tortoise. As for the tortoise, it grows at the sight of water and will soon grow to the size of a square. At this time, the hexapod turtle motioned Xiao and his people to stand on its back. Strangely, Yan Jun Jr. and his clan stood up in turn, but they didn't feel crowded. When the tortoise saw all the people standing up, he told them never to open their eyes.

The six-legged turtle gave a long whistle, and suddenly the wind blew hard, flying sand and stones. The two feet in the middle of the hexapod turtle became a pair of wings 20 feet long. They took off and flew over the river in the blink of an eye. After landing on the south bank, the hexapod turtle folded its wings and quickly climbed to the southeast. Although the clan stood firmly on the turtle's back, they just heard the wind in their ears and huddled in fear, and no one dared to open their eyes.

I don't know how long it took, but the hexapod turtle climbed to a swamp wasteland in the south of the Yangtze River and finally collapsed. It stopped and turned to see if there were any pursuers behind it. When it struggled to turn to the northwest, only the endless barren swamp was alleviated. Unexpectedly, it turned around, but it couldn't move any more. After only one incense burner, it died, and its body slowly sank into the wetland, highlighting a turtle-shaped pattern in Fiona Fang.

Yan Jun Jr. and his people couldn't help crying when they saw this scene. To commemorate the great kindness of the hexapod turtle, Yan Jun Jr. ordered a river to be built in the shape of a turtle on the ground, so that the hexapod turtle could stay in the Yi people forever.

Later, the city became a turtle, and the turtle's head, tail and six feet became eight rivers. The city gate is located in Guikou, facing northwest.

Legend 2: Two turtles converge into a river.

According to legend, after the Yan army was rescued by the tortoise to a barren swamp in the south of the Yangtze River, it opened a river to build a city according to the tortoise map. Unfortunately, the amount of work is large, it is very difficult for people to walk in the swamp, and the tools are simple and the labor efficiency is low, so the progress of digging rivers to build cities is very slow. This thing makes you unable to eat or sleep at night.

That night, I was sad and worried, thinking hard until the early hours of the morning. In his sleep, he suddenly saw the tortoise coming from the door covered in injuries. Yan Jun quickly stepped forward and said, "Where do you live?" The tortoise said, "Don't ask. If you can't build a river, you can dig a hole in my stomach and have two little turtles to help you. " After that, the tortoise tore open the abdominal cavity with its claws and immediately bled profusely. Seeing this, I woke up crying. The next day, Yan Jun dug up in the middle of the turtle-shaped land according to the dream turtle. After half a day's work, I dug two holes more than ten feet deep. I found two turtles lying in the holes, one yellow and the other white. Yan Jun carefully picked up two little turtles. Who knows that these two little turtles grow as soon as they see the wind, and soon they will grow to a foot square, and they will "shout" into the swamp, and the arch soil will be built into a river according to the turtle-shaped pattern.

Two little turtles arched around, piled up for three days and nights, and finally arched out three circular rivers and built three circular cities. After the prototype of He Chenghe was completed, two little turtles returned to their original shape, jumped into two deep caves and lay motionless.

Later, people called the two deep caves in Zicheng "Golden Well" and "Jade Well". Legend has it that whenever there is a "seventh heaven" in the sky, the golden well where the beetle is hiding will be full and glittering. In another Jade Well (also called Jade Turtle Well), a small white turtle lays an egg every ten days, which is as big as a fist and crystal clear. Eggs accumulate over time and accumulate at the bottom of the well, making the well shine like stars and white jade. It is said that if someone eats this white turtle egg, eating one can cure the disease, eating two can strengthen the body and eating three can prolong life. Of course, ordinary people are hard to eat, and only those who have accumulated virtue and kindness can enjoy it.

These two wells remained for more than 2,000 years and were not lost until Guangxu.

Legend three: drowning the king and beheading the woman

On the west side of Yancheng Outer City, there are three tall mounds in the north-south direction, which are called head pier, abdomen pier and foot pier by local people. There is a very touching story about these three mounds.

It is said that the wife gave birth to a daughter shortly after the presidential election caused the city election. Yan Jun named his daughter Miao, which means "Three Rivers". Princess Miao grew up smart and kind, and grew up to 15 years old, just like a lotus flower out of water, which is extremely beautiful and is the apple of her eye. Princess Miao is hardworking, kind, gentle and beautiful. She is good at sericulture, textile, piano, chess, calligraphy and painting, and can sing and dance. She is a good girl with both talents and looks.

Chang Sunyan, a neighbor who stayed in the city, was ambitious and coveted the territory of the city and Princess Miao, so she colluded with the greedy doctor of the city wood to defraud the king of the city and became the son-in-law of the city. One day, Gongziyan stole the princess's name, got the key to the back garden and stole the treasure of the city-the white jade turtle.

Gongziyan happened to meet the princess who came back from the training ground when he tried to escape from the city with the white jade turtle. Seeing this, the princess accused Gongziyan of despicable behavior and tried to deal with it by military law. Seeing that things were exposed, Gongziyan pretended to be very guilty and asked the princess to forgive him. Then, while the princess was not paying attention, she pulled out her dagger-Gongziyan's bronze sword pierced the princess's chest, and her kind heart was stabbed by the evil and ruthless sword. The princess didn't have time to scream, and she didn't have time to look at the water and soil that fed her again, so she fell in a pool of blood.

Childe killed Princess Miao crazily and ran away in a hurry. I rushed back to the city when I heard the news, stopped Yan halfway, had a fight and took the white jade turtle.

Yanjun returned to Zicheng, and when he saw his daughter's unfortunate death, he couldn't help but burst into tears and was heartbroken. So he accompanied the princess with treasures such as white jade turtle and buried her in the inner wall. I was afraid that someone would steal the treasures from the princess's tomb in the future, so I built three mounds at once at the funeral, making it difficult for others to tell the truth from the false.

Since then, people miss Princess Miao, and Tomb-Sweeping Day pays homage to her every year. At the same time, take a bucket of soil, add it to the princess grave, cultivate the soil and plant trees. Over time, the princess's tomb piled up into three high piers. For the convenience of pointing out, people named these three piers as head pier, abdomen pier and foot pier in turn.

Because people made a very effective wish when they visited the princess's tomb, people later called Princess Miao "Princess Bailing". As a result, a beautiful legend has been passed down through the ages and has been touching so far.

Legend 4: Wang Jinsuo was elected

Yancheng was formerly called Yancheng. Legend has it that a long time ago, there was a wicked and greedy rich man who occupied Yangcheng River. One summer, the rich hired several fishermen to go fishing in Yancheng River. The old rich man was afraid that the fishermen would hide secretly. In addition to sending Zhuang Ding to guard the river, he also personally sits in the town every three days to supervise.

On the eighth day of fishing, a fisherman suddenly fished out a rope from the river. The end of the rope is as thick as an arm, shining golden light in the sun, which is particularly dazzling. "Baby!" The old rich man felt great when he saw it. He hurried to the river and shouted, "Put it down quickly, this is the treasure left by my ancestors, specially put it in the river for feng shui!" " "He also solemnly threatened fishermen. Anyone who takes this treasure rope casually will be finished, bringing trouble to the whole city. Hearing this, the fisherman quickly threw the rope into the river.

That night, the old rich man took his son and quietly came to the flooded river by moonlight. They rowed the boat to the place where fishermen fished during the day and put a row of rolling hooks into the river. Soon, the hook caught the rope and the father and son pulled up hard. After a while, the old rich man bent down eagerly, licked the end of the rope with his tongue, and exclaimed with surprise, "Sweet, it's gold!" " This discovery made the old rich man and his son ecstatic. The two men completely ignored the weakness of their hands and pulled up desperately on the boat in tandem.

Pull, pull, pull for a long time, and Kinso soon filled the middle cabin of the ship. Strange to say, this golden rope seems to have no end, and it can't be pulled out anyway. Soon, the front cabin was full, the back cabin was full, and the river had overflowed to the side of the boat. However, the old rich man is in a good mood and will not let go or pander. At last the boat couldn't help it, and the river flooded into the cabin. The ship sank quickly and sank to the bottom of the river in the blink of an eye. At this time, the old rich man wanted to leave the golden rope and pick it up. I didn't know that the gold rope was stuck to his hand and I couldn't get rid of it. Soon, the old rich man and his son sank to the bottom of the river and filled their stomachs with overflowing water-drowned!

It turned out that the Zijin rope was a thin rope tied to a canoe by the elected king, and later the elected king was defeated and sank into the river. Usually, people can't see anything. Only in the middle of the night on August 15 every year, when the moon is in the sky, can they see waves of golden light soaring into the sky, and no one has ever caught anything. Unfortunately, this golden rope was discovered by the greedy old rich man, who was rewarded and dragged alive into the river by the golden rope and drowned.

From then on, Yancheng was called "Yancheng".

Legend 5: Fire Attacks Amazon City

Legend has it that there is a city in the northeast corner of the city. Liu Wang has long coveted this city, and he knows how to rely on force.

If you can't win by storming the election city, please in various ways and win the trust of the election king. Later, Liu Wang's son Yan was recruited by Yan Jun as the East Bed Xu.

Before long, Gongziyan gave Jun Yan an idea to plant dogs and hardships all over the outer wall. The spikes of dog thistles are so dense that even dogs can't get in, which can strengthen the city defense. Hearing this, Mr. Yan thought it was a good idea, so he asked the army and the people to follow the plan. When Liu Gongzi saw that the plan was successful, he came up with a second idea, so that the Yanjun could plant lentils on the inner wall. He said lentils were bright purple and pink when they bloomed, and the clouds steamed like Xia Wei, which became the natural decorative barrier of the city. Gongziyan was praised by the elected monarch for his thoughtful and clever means.

On a hot summer day, Yan Jun stood at the head of Zicheng and looked out, and saw lentils in full bloom in Xia Hong. Yan Jun was very happy when he thought that the picturesque Yancheng would be an indestructible fortress.

However, in winter, the natural fortress on the wall of Tucheng, the dog thistle covered with spikes, all withered, and the lentils and vines that used to be green leaves and red flowers also withered. King Liu thinks it's time for Gongziyan to steal the national treasure, White Jade Turtle, and then send troops to attack the city after the defeat.

The dogs, thistles and lentils left by soldiers outside the city shot into the inner wall, and immediately burned into a sea of fire, leaving the king's son to seize the city. After Mr. Elected lost the election, he ran around and contacted three neighboring countries. Three days later, he went back to the election city and killed Mr. Liu and his son in one fell swoop.

Legend 6: Yaoling Bell

"Yaoling Bell", as its name implies, is the place where the bell is rung. It was originally used by the elected monarch to save his life and clear his mind.

Originally, the Yi people were attacked by Zhou Wang three times in a square country in the north, and fled here with the help of their ancestors. In order to make the people and future generations remember the past and work hard, the first thing they did after building a small city was to choose a place on the inner city mountain and hang a bronze bell half a person high on the tree. Every morning and evening, Mr. Yan leads his ministers here to repent their predecessors' crimes and swear to become a powerful country.

At this time, the master of ceremonies will ring the bronze bell, and the "Dangdang" bell will make people work hard. Later, because of its unique terrain, it runs through the three rivers and is used as a fire platform on the top of the mountain for military defense. It is said that at that time, as long as he found the enemy's situation, he rang the bell and sounded the alarm here to warn the whole city to enter a state of readiness. When the enemy attacked the city, Mr. Yan personally rang the bell here and called on the military and civilians to protect the city.

Later, archaeology discovered that three moats were connected in series in the Spring and Autumn Period, and now there are two river sites in the Spring and Autumn Period at 1.8 meters below the surface.

Legend 7: Longquan Tongjiang

In the outer river southeast of Yancheng, there is a place called Longquan, also known as Longtan, where the water flows all the year round. According to legend, when the tortoise rescued Yimou from crossing the river, it absorbed enough water from the Yangtze River. After I got here, I left my stomach full of water here. Who knows, after the water seeped into the ground, it actually connected to the Yangtze River. So the water here is crystal clear, sweet and delicious, which is completely different from the local water quality.

The junction of the water and the outer river is clear and muddy. The crops watered with this Longquan spring water also grow very well, and the rice, sweet potatoes, beans and other foods produced are of high quality and double nutrition.

In the sixth year of Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty (1856), there was a drought and a thousand miles of land. At that time, hundreds of rivers dried up and cracked, but the water in the rivers inside and outside Yancheng was as clear as ever, and the water did not dry up. The reason is that with this Longquan, Yancheng people and neighboring villagers relied on this Longquan to survive this disaster.

There used to be a fairy tale of "dragon girl playing in water, jade turtle building a river", and a folk song: "Longquan water comes from the East China Sea, which is sweet for thousands of years and nourishes everything on both sides of the strait." According to legend, this was once the place where Princess Miao rowed and splashed water.

Legend 8: Yue Fei garrisoned troops and flooded the city.

In the spring of Song Jianyan's fourth year (A.D. 1 130), Yue Fei led an army stationed in Yancheng, Changzhou, controlled Guangde in the south and Liyang in the west, and intercepted Yan Zongbi's army from crossing Hebei.

Yue Fei organized soldiers to train in a short time. Yue Fei was very strict with the army, and the foot soldiers tied grass with civilian hemp without authorization, which was beheading. He paid special attention to training, rushed to the hillside and jumped into the trench, all dressed in heavy armor. Yue Fei can fire from left to right, so can his soldiers.

Strictly trained foot soldiers act in strict accordance with orders and will not waver even if they suddenly meet the enemy. Yue Dashuai has clear rewards and punishments, cares about soldiers, and often mixes medicines for patients; When soldiers go on expeditions, he often sympathizes with their families. Those who died in battle, raise their children. Where there are rewards, they are equally distributed to subordinates.

Yue Fei cultivated himself and lived a simple life. It is said that he has a famous saying: "Civil servants are not greedy for money, military officers are not afraid of death, and the world will be peaceful." He told the soldiers when he sent troops to attack the enemy in Yancheng.

At that time, the nomads from the army occupied Liyang, and Yue Fei sent Liu Jing to lead the troops in a night attack, killing 500 people, capturing Nuzhen, Han Erjun, the pseudo-Liyang magistrate and so on 12 people and recovering Liyang. Nomads from the south fled hastily, burning and looting everywhere, and the nomads from the south fled to Jin Quan Township, Yixing. Yue Fei led the army to Yixing and met Jin Bing in the south of Yixing. The two sides fought fiercely in the lily field. Yue Fei personally led the army against the nomads from afar. The military doors of the two sides confronted each other, drums were loud, people were buzzing, swords, guns and halberds roared like pine and bamboo, and dust covered the sky. Yue Fei galloped with a gun, and thousands of athletes became more and more brave. Nomads from the army were defeated and fled in a panic. Yue Fei chased for a while and sent Yue Yun to fight Chang Shengjun.

According to legend, Yue Fei led his troops to camp in Yancheng, 20 miles away from Changzhou City. Zhang Xian, Wang Gui and Fu Qing led the troops to the south of Qishuyan Bridge, sent Fu Qing and Wang Wanling to Xijiang Beach, made Yue Yun and Zhang Xian lead the troops to ambush the new sluice, sent Li Dao and Yao Zheng to help things, and left Liu Jing to guard the camp. A few days later, Yue Fei led a thousand Yue Jiajun to meet Jin Bing in the eastern suburb of Changzhou, and the two sides launched a bloody battle. Suddenly, the drums were ringing, the ambush was everywhere, Yue Fei won all four wars, and Wu Shu led the army to flee to the west, killing and drowning the enemy. Yue Fei covered up and killed, and the nomads from behind. In 15, nomadic people were dead everywhere, and 1 1 people, such as Li Yan and Han Wei, were captured alive.

Nomads from the west fled, and Changzhou was burned to a pile of ruins by torches. Yue Fei led the army to pursue, headed for Jiankang, and once again fought with Nomads from Qingshui Pavilion, winning a great victory. The enemy was lying dead for ten miles, and the Han army in Bohai captured 45 people alive, beheaded 65,438+075 people, and beheaded countless waistcoats and drums.

At that time, Yue Dashuai's Shuaifu was on the slope of the inner city of Yancheng (now the location of Nanfang Village). Shuaifu sits in six halls facing south, six feet wide, two feet deep and one foot three feet high. The red pillar outside the gate is very thick. There is a couplet on the post in front of the Shuaifu, which reads: Military attache is not afraid of death; The bottom line is: civil servants are not greedy for money; Horizontal identification: loyalty to the country. This Shuaifu site was demolished by local businessman Meng Erya at 1930, and the timber was transported to Gaotian village outside the city to build the ancestral hall of the dealer. At 1990, the dealer's ancestral hall was demolished and wood was bought to build a factory.

Legend 9: Yue Shuai Mo Bao stayed in Yancheng

Yue Fei is a master of both civil and military skills, and there are only a handful in the history of China for thousands of years.

In the fourth year of Jianyan (A.D. 1 130), Yue Fei was 28 years old and led 2,000 soldiers to fight against Changzhou. After retaking Changzhou from the Jin people, they swept the Jin soldiers and recovered large areas of lost land in the south of the Yangtze River, such as Zhenjiang and Jiankang (now Nanjing). In the same year, in Yixing, Liyang, Guangde and other places, Ji Guo and other bandits were defeated, and six out of six battles were won, so that the people were spared from the ravages. Yue Fei's patriotic spirit of serving the country has been widely praised by Chinese people so far.

However, few people know that Yue Fei left a poem Mo Bao when Yue Jiajun was stationed in Yancheng.

According to legend, Yue Fei was ordered to go to Piling (Changzhou) to fight the Jin Army. When he passed the Zhangzhanghe River in Yixing, he visited the zhang wan of Gaoshi, with the inscription "Seven Wonders?" After Zhang Xi presented Zhang Wan, the poem said: "I have no intention of buying wine to make me young, and it has nothing to do with the mirror." Ying Xiao Wo, who spent his youth, dismounted to visit his master. "

The first sentence of the poem is "unintentional", which means that there is no intention at first, and things will come naturally. Ye, I'm telling you, Chen said. "Youth" is interpreted as a teenager here. The second sentence "Oh" is an exclamation. The last sentence "drooping" means drooping, or "gradually" solving. "Dry" refers to emaciation and fatigue. "Master", an otherworldly person, refers to a hermit, in this case, Zhang Wan. Zhang Wan replied to the poem: "If we meet, we don't remember the spring, and the present is not old. This is the color tone required by evil, which is undoubtedly a pity. "

Later generations treasured Yue Shuai's poem Xerox in Yancheng. According to Changzhou Fuzhi, in the thirty-fourth year of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty (1695), "Xerox still exists today". Since then, no one has ever verified the existence of stone tablets.

At the same time, Changzhou also found two calligraphy inscriptions when Yue Fei stationed troops and flooded the city. One is Yue Fei's inscription when compiling Changzhou Su Dongpo's genealogy: "Meishan Su family passed down from generation to generation", and the other is Yue Fei's inscription when compiling Wujin Wang's genealogy: "Wang Baocang".

Legend 10: Harmonious monks cultivate Mao 'an alone.

In the second year of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty (1645), Hangyong, a 50-year-old Sichuan monk, crossed the mountain road from Maoshan to Longchi in Donghai, passing through Wujin. I accidentally heard that there is an ancient city site in the south of Wujin, surrounded by meandering water, cypress trees and Yu Xiu. It's quite empty, without dust and customs, so I find it interesting and stride towards it. Monk Xing Yong visited Yancheng for a while, but when he arrived in Zicheng, he saw that the temple had been exposed to the wind and rain, and Master Guanyin and all the bodhisattvas were in a state of collapse. He couldn't help sighing, suddenly felt pity and immediately made a wish to rebuild the temple.

So, he changed his plan to go east and decided to make preliminary repairs to Mao 'an temporarily. Three days later, he chose an acre of land in Zicheng to dig the foundation of buddhist nun. Since then, monks have been working day and night, rain or shine, building bricks and tiles and building Mao 'an alone.

For many years, he has been chopping wood and carrying water, and his shoulders are cracked, which is extremely difficult. At first, people nearby turned a blind eye to this, and it was rare for someone to help once or twice. Monks in Xing Yong are honest by nature and are not good at going out to raise money. He will only spend the money he has with him, scrimping and saving. Sometimes he recites and gives lectures for the donors who seek Buddha, and gets a little reward. Slowly, the reward for chanting is accumulated.

Later, the donors learned that he was so honest, not for fame and fortune, but for it, and they helped each other. It can be said that every little makes a mickle. After 10 years, when buddhist nun was built, monk Xing Yong bought all kinds of instruments, such as alarm bells and drums. The city walls were completely consolidated, bricks were ground, bamboo was planted loosely, Buddha statues were rebuilt, incense kept burning, drums and bells rang again.

At this time, monk Xingyong was 73 years old. In the last year of Kangxi Xin (1668), on the seventh day of the first month, monks celebrated with stones and neighbors sang hymns.
