How long will the umbilical cord of the newborn be detached by itself, and how to deal with it after detachment?
The umbilical cord should be kept dry before it falls off. After the newborn came home from the hospital, there were no special circumstances. If there is no umbilical infection, it can be covered without gauze, which can promote the umbilical cord to dry faster. Never put wet clothes or diapers on your navel. If the covered gauze is wet, it should be replaced in time. When replacing, after opening the gauze, gently scrub it from the root of umbilical cord to the surrounding skin with 75% alcohol cotton ball, and do not rub it back and forth, so as to avoid bringing germs from the surrounding skin into the root of umbilical cord and causing infection.
After the umbilical cord falls off, a layer of scab skin can be left on the umbilical cord and fall off naturally. Generally, it is dry and does not need to be treated again. If the navel is wet or there is a little liquid oozing out, you can gently wipe it with a sterile cotton swab dipped in 75% alcohol, and then apply it to the umbilical root and surrounding skin with 75% alcohol. Never apply gentian violet to your navel. This will not only affect the observation of umbilical infection, but also scab the umbilical surface, making it difficult to discharge purulent secretions below and aggravating the infection.
