What is a typhoon like?
There are certain conditions for the formation of typhoons. First of all, it needs a vast ocean surface and high temperature water. When the water temperature is high, the lower air in the ocean is heated violently, which is easy to form convection. The vast ocean surface forms a large range of convection, which provides enough water vapor for typhoons. In summer, the western Pacific meets such conditions, so typhoons occur frequently. Secondly, appropriate geostrophic parameters are needed to make the airflow converge continuously. According to calculation, the geostrophic parameters about 5 latitudes from the equator are the most favorable for the formation of typhoons. Thirdly, the vertical shear of airflow is small, which is beneficial to the stability of typhoon cyclone, and the western Pacific just meets this condition. In addition, a certain flow field is needed.
