Translation and Annotation of Liu Yong's "Recalling the Emperor's Capital, Thin Pillow and Cool Weather"
Dynasty: Song Dynasty
Author: Liu Yong
Original:
Thin pillow, cool weather, at first glance, feels like parting. It's colder when you get up, and you still sleep. After all, I can't sleep, and the night is as long as years old.
I also want to wait, but I want to ask for it; Fight for resistance again, and have already made plans. Ten thousand kinds of thoughts, many solutions, only lonely and tired. It's my whole life, and I've shed a thousand tears for you.
Translation and Notes
Translation
After a nap, I was awakened by a thin quilt, and suddenly I felt an indescribable feeling of leaving. Tossing and turning, I counted the knocking times in the cold night, got up and went to sleep again. After repeated tossing, I couldn't sleep, and the night was as long as a year.
I also tried to rein in my horse and return, but I was helpless. I started on my way for my livelihood and fame. How can I return in vain? Thousands of thoughts, always trying to enlighten and explain in various ways, can only be so lonely and boring in the end. I will tie you to my heart all my life, but I have failed to live up to your endless sad tears!
