What are the women's badminton competitions?
Uber Cup, also known as the World Women's Badminton Team Championship, is an international badminton competition in which the member teams of the Badminton World Federation participate. The first Uber Cup was held in Lancashire, England from 65438 to 0957, and it was held every three years from 65438 to 0957. Later, it was decided that the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup would be held every two years from 1986, and the two events would be held at the same time and place.
The trophy was donated by Betty Uber to the Board of Directors of the International Badminton Federation with the number 1956. On May 14, 2022, the Korean team defeated China 3-2 and won the Uber Cup in 2022.
The Uber Cup is 18cm high, and the sphere is shaped like a globe, with a badminton-like model at the top. At the top of the model stood a female athlete with a racket. The words "International Women's Badminton Champion Challenge Cup organized by the International Badminton Federation 1956" are engraved around his base.
Competition background
With the vigorous development of Thomas Cup-World Men's Badminton Team Championship, Mrs. Youbofu, who was active in the world badminton field in 1930s and 1940s, thought that there should also be a large-scale women's badminton team competition. Mrs Uber, whose full name is Betty Uber, was a famous British female badminton player in 1930s. From 1930 to 1949, she won the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles competitions in British badminton championships for many times.
After retirement, Mrs Uber still has a soft spot for badminton. In order to promote the development of badminton, she officially donated a commemorative cup made by Maipiy and Weber to the International Badminton Federation at the Council meeting of 1956, and personally presided over the lottery ceremony of the first Uber Cup competition.
