According to Liu Zhaofeng, the architectural design of Confucius Institute takes the Han and Tang styles as architectural features, and changes the Ming and Qing styles mainly adopted by Confucius temples around the country, which mainly reflects the grandeur of Chinese culture. The innovative layout based on the traditional Chinese well-shaped layout presents a "three-axis cross-linking" trend.

The vertical axis, the "ritual axis", runs through from northwest to southeast, symbolizing the core ideas of Confucianism, namely "ritual" and "benevolence", starting from Xingxingmen, passing through Dachengmen, Etiquette Square and Dachengdian, and ending at Xingtan. There is a walking statue of Confucius in the square in front of Dacheng Gate, 9.28 meters high, to commemorate Confucius' birthday; Dacheng Hall is the core of Confucius Institute and the central place for offering sacrifices to Confucius.

"Line Axis" symbolizes the wisdom and practice of Confucianism. There are buildings like Xiansi, Yangming Temple and Kuiwen Pavilion on the central axis. Xiangxian Temple is dedicated to celebrities in Guizhou, Yangming Temple is dedicated to Wang Yangming, a great scholar in Ming Dynasty, and Kuiwenge collects Confucian cultural classics.
