The Jialu River in Xiaochen Township was formerly known as Huimin River
The above river names are all the predecessors of the Jialu River, and the origin of the names has not yet been verified.
During the reign of Renzong in the Northern Song Dynasty, the Min River and Cai River, which were connected into one, were collectively called Huimin River. Speaking of the origin of this name, we have to talk about the famous upright official in Chinese history-Bao Zheng. Legend has it that one year there was a flood. It rained heavily and the rivers overflowed. The streets and many civilian houses in Kaifeng were flooded, leaving a large number of people homeless. Bao Zheng, then the governor of Kaifeng, learned about the reasons for the blocked water flow through on-the-spot investigation. It turns out that due to the prosperous commerce and beautiful scenery on both sides of the Cai River, many dignitaries regarded it as a treasure land of Feng Shui, so they privately occupied the river, built dams privately, and built water gardens, pavilions and pavilions on the river for their own enjoyment. These "illegal buildings" at that time seriously blocked the river channel and affected the drainage capacity of the Cai River. Bao Zheng immediately ordered the demolition of all dams and water structures, and argued hard in front of Emperor Renzong, finally dredging the river channel and returning the river to the people. Because Bao Zheng was not afraid of the powerful and benefited the people, the people renamed Cai River "Huimin River" to thank him for his kindness.
