How to improve students’ English writing
In middle school English teaching, we try our best to let students have as much exposure to English as possible. We should provide students with more understandable language input through audio-visual, listening and reading, etc., to improve students' ability to receive, understand and process information. Ability to exercise English thinking, association, imagination, judgment and speculation, enhance language analysis and processing capabilities, thereby enriching the storage of English, strengthening language knowledge, and promoting language expression and creative abilities. However, it is impossible for us to rely solely on language input to enable students to fully master English and develop the ability to comprehensively use English. We also need to test and promote language absorption and thinking abilities through oral and written expression. Therefore, we must not only pay attention to language input, but also pay attention to effective output practices.
In daily English teaching, I pay great attention to students' writing training. Thirty-five minutes into the class, the students completed the intense teaching tasks. Listening, speaking, reading and other activities already made the students very tired. At this time, coupled with appropriate writing training, the entire class will be integrated with movement and stillness, allowing students to effectively achieve language output. In terms of handwriting training, teachers should avoid teaching phenomena that overemphasize receptive learning, simple mechanical imitation, rote memorization, and mechanical training. Below I will present to you one by one the methods of cultivating students' writing skills in teaching.
Menu 1: Traditional Writing
In teaching, mechanical training of writing is still indispensable. Explain clearly the eight-character principle of writing: "overlapping, full grid, and slope" Used to guide students' writing. Therefore, we must set a good example for students to imitate and correct their writing in a timely manner. Within five minutes, be sure to explain the requirements in advance, such as the size of the homework paper, writing format, type of pen, etc. Students are not allowed to ask questions or make mistakes again, which saves time and can achieve unified requirements through multiple trainings. I often use the method of homework sheets. I write a word up to five times, a Chinese meaning and phonetic symbol. The bell rings after class and the homework leader collects it. I can receive 98% of the homework, and the teacher gives feedback after correction.
Menu 2: Deformed Copying
It is difficult for students to memorize words. Students are bored and the error rate is high, which affects students' enthusiasm for learning English. Therefore, the number of times I ask students to dictate and dictate is far less than copying. Copying cannot be limited to simple mechanical copying. Teachers must change methods to stimulate students' interest in writing. I often let students classify words by themselves and use small notes to accumulate the classified words; let students open the book to find certain words that are required to be written, compare the speed, train students' word memory, and increase students' ability to read word lists number of times. Types of copied words include words such as fruit, solitaire words, words with only four letters, and words containing letters such as a. The teacher can preview the content of the next lesson based on the content of this lesson and arrange the copying accordingly. content.
Menu 3: Free Creation
Learning words cannot be separated from spelling, and blindly copying them seems boring. Therefore, we can let students use their hands, mouth, and brain at the same time, and connect them with the classroom content. Create freely. When students learn English for the first time, they can design a cartoon alphabet show; when learning words, have you thought of letting students fold paper to digest the words? After folding, they can write words on it and use it as an object to say the words in the next class. ; After learning the subject vocabulary and daily life arrangements, you can design a novel curriculum and work and rest schedule. The appearance can be boldly designed, give full play to your imagination, and can be displayed or used for your own use; such as festivals, etc., guide students to make greeting cards and provide English holiday greetings, allowing students to express their blessings. These activities that use hands and brains are not only enjoyed by students, but also achieve the purpose of writing training and stimulate their interest in learning English. Menu 4: Full display
After certain training, students’ writing ability has been greatly improved. In daily writing, students' individual needs cannot be met. Therefore, we can hold competitions and other activities to showcase students' writing abilities. For example, after the selection of students' works, they can be used as part of the class poster to give students sufficient space to display; hold a small "Calligraphy Expert" competition, allowing students to complete the writing content within the specified time, sort by time, and those who write incorrectly will be eliminated. Rewards will be given to the top ten students; activities such as the on-campus English Festival can also be used to hold colorful writing competitions, such as cartoon alphabet show, super word tycoon, handwritten newspaper competition and other activities. Let students fully demonstrate their English proficiency and mobilize their enthusiasm for writing.
English writing is an important basic skill and plays an important role in improving students' cultural quality. Strict requirements and strict training should be implemented from the beginning of grade to gradually develop students' writing ability until students develop good so far.
