London/KLOC-Is there really a murderer Jack the Ripper in the 0/9th century?

Comprehensive data of Jack the Ripper (JTR)

Through various speculations and inferences, Jack the Ripper, as the most mysterious serial killer in history, successfully brought this mystery from19th century to 2 1 century. The classic image of Jack the Ripper is very similar to another mysterious figure, Count Drakula. They are all dressed in elegant long trench coats, lingering in the foggy night in London, looking for prey carefully and calmly. However, as a real historical figure, Jack has more texture than a vampire completely from legend, which adds more attractive charm to Jack to some extent. And this irresistible charm is my motivation to study Jack and write this research article. This article is a serious research article, some chapters may be boring, providing background information for movies and games that have already appeared, but it has little to do with the movie game itself, so please don't expect too much.

1 who is Jack the Ripper?

Jack the Ripper was the nickname of a serial killer in London over 0/00 years ago. It is generally believed that he killed many prostitutes in the east end of London in the autumn of 1888. At first, this serial murder case was called the Whitechapel serial murder case because it happened in the Whitechapel area. The name Jack the Ripper first appeared in a letter to a local news organization. The author of this letter claimed that he was the murderer of a series of murders in Whitechapel, Spittal Field, Oldgate and downtown London. At the same time, he called the murder of Whitechapel a "leather apron".

2. Why does Jack get so much attention?

Jack the Ripper is not the first serial killer in history. Why is the public's interest in him so great and lasting? First of all, the era when Jack appeared is also the era when the mass media industry began to step onto the historical stage. Although it is not perfect, newspapers can influence the development of society. Criminal behavior is no longer just a concern of the parties and the police, but has become the focus of discussion in the whole society. The strong pressure of public opinion is unprecedented for the police, the government and the murderer himself. Secondly, newspapers and subsequent publications, while reporting and recording the facts, constantly put on a mysterious coat for Jack, which made Jack experience a century without any signs of being forgotten. In the end, Jack didn't get caught by the police. He changed from a simple serial killer to a dirty hero full of mystery and romance, which is probably the most charming place of Jack.

3. Victims

It is still impossible to know exactly how many people Jack killed. It is generally believed that he always kills five people. Some researchers think he killed only four, while others think he killed seven or more. The public, the media and even some major policemen believe that he is responsible for at least nine murders.

4. Criminal methods

It was in the 1990s, that is, 0/00 years after the serial killings in Whitechapel, that people got a more comprehensive understanding of Jack's modus operandi. So we can infer many characteristics of Jack:

First of all, he must have a considerable knowledge of anatomy.

B, considering the environment at that time (outdoor, basically no lighting, I have to be alert to the surrounding situation at any time, extremely tense time), Jack must be a skilled knife user.

C, all the victims were stabbed from right to left by a knife, which means that Jack is probably left-handed or skilled in using knives with both hands. This speculation indirectly indicates that Jack is probably an experienced doctor or anatomist.

D, it's possible that Jack didn't do it alone. This inference is widely accepted by "royal conspiracy theorists", but there is no evidence that Jack has an accomplice.

E, Jack must be a man with some physical strength.

The last one became the main flaw of the "Royal Conspiracy Theory". William Gul, a suspect in the royal conspiracy theory, is thought to have been over 70 years old when he committed the crime. Such an old man, no matter how good his anatomical skills are, his physical strength does not allow him to carry out such a laborious murder.

5. Jack's letter

Although most scholars think that none of Jack's letters really came from a serial murderer in Whitechapel, people still like to believe this appalling thing, and even use the letter's signature "Jack the Ripper" to call the murderer in Whitechapel. The central news angency received the first letter signed by Jack the Ripper on September 27th, 1888, and then received a postcard from the same author on June 27th, 10. In the postcard, the person claiming to be Jack the Ripper mentioned the so-called "double murder", that is, two prostitutes were killed on the night of September 30th. The postmark of 65438+ 10/month 1 on the postcard is greatly reduced in credibility. Although the media didn't know about the murder the night before, this letter probably came from a clever reporter.

Another letter, probably from the real Jack, was sent to George Lusk, chairman of the Whitechapel District Security Committee, in the middle of 65438+ 10. Then there is a box with half a human kidney. The letter claimed that the kidney came from the victim Eides. Eides did have the whole kidney removed by Jack. Records show that Eides has some kind of kidney disease, and half of the kidney he sent did show signs of illness. These evidences strongly support the authenticity of this letter, but some people think that it is possible to know that Ed lost his kidney and found a kidney with the same disease.

6. Evidence

In the era when there is no forensic medicine, genetic identification or even fingerprint comparison, the only way to prove someone's crime is to catch the criminal at the scene of the crime or let the suspect admit his crime. At that time, Scotland Yard was not the only institution investigating the case. Because Eides was killed in the inner city of London, the inner city police also intervened in the investigation. There are indications that, although the grass-roots investigators of the two sides cooperate happily, the high-level investigators have great differences. This makes the investigation more difficult. Meanwhile, Jack left no evidence. There are hardly any personal belongings of Jack at the scene. Although the "Royal Conspiracy Theory" holds that there are leftover grapes at the scene, there is no police record to support this theory. The only credible evidence is that Jack wiped his knife with Ed's apron after completing the "double murder" on the evening of September 30th. This apron cloth was later found on a porch, and the wall next to it was written in chalk, "It's all the Jews." (These people will not be blamed for no reason. The reason why the evidence was not photographed is because the head of the London Inner City Police Department asked his subordinates to erase the handwriting in order to avoid subsequent dislike of Jews. Although there were many suspects at that time, the police finally failed to catch any suspects because there was too little evidence to prosecute.

In addition to the lack of evidence due to the poor cooperation of the police, the evidence about Jack is getting less and less because of its age and poor preservation. Especially after the two world wars, there are very few objective police records left at the crime scene. Another reliable record comes from private memos or memoirs of the relevant police officers. These files are relatively well preserved, but their contents are relatively subjective. All kinds of news reports and rumors at that time and later, 90% were fabricated.

7.doubt

There are different opinions about who Jack really is, and there are more than 20 suspects on record. I will introduce these people separately in the chapter of "Suspects", and here I mean to make some systematic inferences.

In 1894, Melville Macnaghten, the chief investigator of Jack the Ripper, wrote a confidential report in which three main suspects were put forward. Although none of the suspects can live to the new century, the file was finally decrypted to 1959. The three suspects are:

A, M.J. Drouth, lawyer and teacher, committed suicide in 1888 65438+ February. Unfortunately, the deviation of Macnaughton's own memory greatly reduced the possibility that Derette was Jack. McNutton thinks Derette is a doctor. Kelly committed suicide immediately after he was murdered. 4 1 died. But in fact, Derette was not a doctor. He committed suicide one month after Kelly's death. There is no police evidence to support Derette's suspicion.

Aaron kosminski.

Macnaughton considers himself a Polish Jew. After committing the crime, he was sent to a mental hospital and died soon. At the same time, many detectives who participated in the investigation also put forward similar views. Except for the spelling of their names, most people think they are a Jewish madman of Polish descent. At that time, many people thought that Jack the Ripper's headless case could probably come to an end. But there was no police evidence to prove Cosminschi's crime, although later investigation did prove the existence of Cosminschi. He was indeed a Polish Jew and was sent to a mental hospital at the end of 1888. Hospital records show that he is a docile and harmless idiot who only likes to eat things in the sewer. In addition, he died shortly after being admitted to a mental hospital, and lived to 19 19.

Michael Ostrog.

There is little research on him because it is easy to find that he is just a perverted liar.

Dr Francis Tomberty is a famous suspect in modern times. No one put forward his theory until 1993. Among the notes left by the criminologist G·R· Simms when Jack committed the crime, there was a letter from the head of the secret investigation department of Scotland Yard. The letter showed different views on the suspect Macnaughton, and raised the possibility of being suspected of Talbright. Tablett is an American. After he returned to the United States on 1889, the murder did not happen. However, some people think that Jack was responsible for the murder of Alice Mackenzie in July 1889. If it is true, this doubt will not stand.

8 Jack Research

At the time and after Jack committed the crime, a large number of related reports, novels and studies appeared, but most of them were based on legends and had no research value. After the First World War, with the appearance of the first serious Jack novel "The Mystery of Jack the Ripper", a new round of interest in Jack has been aroused in Britain. At 1950, American film and television began to pay attention to the legend of Jack. The real Jack craze may have happened in the 1970s. At that time, there were many inferences about Jack, such as the famous "royal conspiracy theory". People's speculation about jack is getting more and more irrelevant. Many people think that Jack is a member of the aid association, a doctor, or a senior leader of a secret society. Although there are many fantastic ideas, Jack's best works are also produced in this era. Today, due to the release of the movie From Hell, there is likely to be another craze about Jack.
