Noun English

English nouns refer to words used to express names of people or things.

1. According to the constituent nouns, it can be divided into simple nouns and synthetic nouns. Simple nouns are nouns composed of one word, and synthetic nouns are nouns composed of two or more phrases.

2. According to the meaning, nouns can be divided into proper nouns and common nouns. Proper nouns refer to the names of people or things, and the first letter must be capitalized. Common nouns refer to the common names of a certain kind of people or things. Common nouns can be subdivided into individual nouns, collective noun, material nouns and abstract nouns.

3. According to countability, nouns can be divided into countable nouns and uncountable nouns, and countable nouns have singular and plural forms; Uncountable nouns have no plural form. Material nouns and abstract nouns are uncountable nouns.

A name that represents someone, something, substance or abstract concept. For example: teachers, tea, reform.

Common nouns can be further divided into five categories:

(1) Individual nouns: denote a single person and thing. Such as car (car), room (room), fan (fan) and photo (photo)

(2) collective noun: the name of a group of people or things. Such as people, families, armies, governments, and groups.

(3) Compound nouns: nouns composed of two or more nouns connected together. Like passers-by, brother-in-law.

(4) Material nouns: substances that indicate substances or individuals with uncertain shapes and sizes. Such as fire, steel, air, water and milk.

(5) Abstract nouns: indicating actions, states, properties or other abstract concepts. Such as labor, health, life, friendship and patience.
